A little hero and her family were interviewed by The Morning Show on 2021. The family’s kitchen was spared a potentially devastating house fire thanks to the fast thinking of a 4-year-old.
Amelia Jermyn saw a fire in her kitchen on Saturday and immediately raced to tell her father. The close call was documented on film. When a fire breaks out in the kitchen, Amelia is seen in a home video dancing about the house in a tutu and blasting “Frozen” music.
“Fire. Oh no,” she is heard saying on the video, “Dad is going to murder me.”
Amelia can be seen acting immediately, as if on cue.
Her father, Daniel Jermyn, who was in the bathroom at the time, was brushing his teeth when the fire started, she recalled on Sunday.
“She was like ‘Dad! You have to see this!’ And I don’t know why, so I was, like, ‘OK, fine.’ So I am brushing my teeth and walking out of the room,” he recalled. “And I couldn’t comprehend it. You know what I mean? As soon as you see it, there’s no way this is going on right now, and I look and the air fryer is on fire.”
Another home video shows Daniel frantically going to the kitchen where he discovers the air fryer on the stove is on fire. He claimed, however, that he was unable to locate the fire extinguisher.
“So the next best thing was to grab the air fryer and throw it into the pool,” he told News4Jax.
He clarified that although the air fryer was hooked into an outlet, it wasn’t turned on, and nothing was inside of it when the fire started. He claimed to have prepared chicken nuggets and french fries around 30 minutes earlier.
“They had all been eaten and picked through,” Daniel said. “I just had it sitting on the stove.”
Daniel claimed to have small burns on his feet, but he is thankful that everyone, including the household dogs, are safe because of his daughter.
“If Amelia had not come and got me and I had not paid attention to her, probably one or two more minutes, we would have lost the kitchen, at least the kitchen,” Daniel said. “It was pretty close.”
What might have been the beginning of the family’s story ended happily.
