Josephine Chaplin, actress and daughter of silent film legend Charlie Chaplin, passed away at the age of 74 on July 13, People has confirmed.
A statement from Chaplin’s estate shared: “She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family and friends.”
It continued: “For years, Josephine managed the Chaplin Office in Paris on behalf of her siblings until she took leave to care for her husband Jean-Claude Gardin.”
So far, the cause of Josephine’s death has not been disclosed.
A funeral service was held in her honor at Père Lachaise on Friday afternoon (July 21).
Josephine was one of the eight children of Charlie Chaplin and his fourth wife, Oona O’Neill. Throughout his life, Chaplin became a father to a total of 11 children to three of his wives. Prior to O’Neill, the renowned English comic was also married to Mildred Harris, Paulette Goddard, and Lita Grey.
Following in her father’s footsteps, Josephine embarked on her own acting career and appeared alongside him in Limelight, a film that was also written and directed by Chaplin.
In 1967, she starred in another Chaplin film titled A Countess From Hong Kong, and also acted in other movies like The Man Without a Face and Shadowman.
