Unbeknownst to many, Teigen has always been open about her difficult pregnancy to the media. In fact, their first two children were conceived artificially via in vitro fertilization (IVF). Luna Legend is now 7, while Miles Legend is 5.
Sadly, as they began trying to conceive a third child, they were met with an unfortunate ordeal. Teigen first announced the tragic news that the couple had lost their baby on Instagram on October 2020, alongside black-and-white photos of the couple in a hospital room. While expecting their third child, a boy that they’d already named Jack, Teigen experienced complications while giving birth, and the baby didn’t make it.
Teigen revealed in a heartfelt essay published by Medium that doctors had diagnosed her with partial placenta abruption. Her diagnosis meant she had been on bed rest for over a month prior, with the goal of getting Jack to the 28-week mark, when she could then safely deliver him early.
However, she was eventually admitted to the hospital with excessive bleeding. Although doctors had given her “bags and bags of blood transfusions,” they were ultimately “never able to stop the bleeding.”
As the couple moved on from the passing of their third kid, Teigen made sure she remembered her kid as she had the name Jack inked on her wrist. On January 2023, Teigen gave birth to their third child and second daughter, Esti Maxine Legend, who was conceived by IVF again. Six months later, they had their fourth child and second son, Wren Alexander Legend, who was born via a surrogate mother.

In an Instagram post that she uploaded on Jun. 29, 2023, Teigen detailed how the journey of motherhood for her started when she was still young.
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted four children. As a little girl, 2 glow worms and 2 cabbage patch dolls were perpetually in my arms, helping me stir in my pretend kitchen, watching Alf with me,” she recalled.
In the same post, Teigen recalled how after her son Jack died, she thought of giving up, but after therapy, she approached John and thought of trying again, which turned out to be successful. At the same time, they met Alexandra.
“I knew she was a perfect match for us the moment we spoke to her,” Teigen wrote. “We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra.”
However, things didn’t seem to work at first because the first embryos didn’t survive, but with Alexandra’s patience and determination, the next one came to be.
“Not wanting to rush the process, we took a breath and… were just patient. I laid around, enjoying the first trimester of my pregnancy, with of course a little bit of fear that isn’t any different from any other expecting couple. As we crept toward the safe zone of my own pregnancy, we were overjoyed to learn Alexandra became pregnant with a little boy. Our little boy,” Teigen went on to say as she shared photos of their new son, Wren.
Born on Jun. 19, 2023, Teigen shared a carousel of photos of her new son with her and John, one with her kissing Alexandra’s baby bump, and finally, a sleeping photo of Wren with her cute little baby hair all up.

With the addition of Wren, the Legend household has grown to a full six, something John described as an incredible feeling.
“We are very outnumbered now,” he told Extra with a smile and added, “We are having fun, honestly… The babies are lovely. They are just adding joy and energy to our house. Our older kids are excited to welcome their younger siblings into the world, and it just fills the house with more love.”
It’s clear John has truly settled into dad life, as proven by the numerous photos on Instagram he shares of his children. On July 15, 2023, he posted adorable snaps of himself with Miles and Wren and captioned it, “The boys.” Just days earlier, he had also shared a stunning portrait of all of his four kids in blue gingham outfits.
Teigen also gave some insight into daily life for her now, posting sweet photos of her lying down on the couch as she cradled the petite Wren during nap times. She captioned the post “all day all day,” and later added:
“These are the only pics I have now 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I need to get outside.”
A few days later, she shared an adorable update in the form of a video of Wren in a frog-print onesie bundled up in the nook of Teigen’s arm. As the camera panned closer to Wren’s face, the newborn breaks out into the shyest of smiles. “Oh my God, did you get it?” Teigen is heard saying in the clip, which she captioned:
“FINALLLLLLYYYYY! A smile 🥰🥰🥰”
The post prompted one fan to leave Teigen a heartwarming message that read, “What a wonderful moment and joy! I’m so glad you finally have the complete family you worked so hard for! Enjoy it all!”
