Jean Skoglund and her grandson were the only ones in the house when it caught fire. Her grandson was able to escape and call for help, but Skoglund died at the hospital. The grandmother used to serve in the military, and her daughter believes she saved her grandchild’s life as her last heroic act.
Jean Skoglund, a mother, grandmother, and veteran, is believed to have sacrificed her life for her grandson. The grandmother and her grandson were reportedly in the house together when a fire broke out at their Paulding County home.
The teenager managed to escape, but when he tried to go back for his grandmother, who was stuck on the second floor, the flames and smoke were too strong. When firefighters eventually made it to the scene, they found Skoglund passed out in the hallway.

Angela Perez Believes Her Mother Sacrificed Her Life for Her Grandchild’s
According to Perez, her son was the one to call 911 as she was at work when the fire broke out. But she believes it is because of Skoglund that her son was able to make it out alive. “She got him out of his room, and they got separated, explained Perez. “Yes, my mother saved my son’s life,” she added.

Without hesitation, Perez knew her mother would sacrifice her life for her grandson, “She’s always my hero. She’s my mom,” she continued to praise her mother.
The family was renting out the Paulding County home and did not have rental insurance. Therefore, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with their expenses.
In the interview, Perez appeared to be in complete shock. She seemed to be going through a rollercoaster of emotions as she mourned the loss of her mother but was relieved that her son had survived.
Perez emphasized that this was her mother’s last heroic gesture; she said, “If it hadn’t been for her, he would’ve been in there too.” As she now faced the cost of a funeral and a damaged home, the distraught mother added, “We’re just asking for prayers for peace right now, and really anything is useful. Anything is helpful. Even if it’s prayers.”
