Mom brings infant to work and makes headlines when boss unknowingly snaps picture

All the moms and dads out there will know just how difficult it is to raise a baby. Rewarding, undoubtedly, and more fulfilling than anything else you’re likely to ever do in your life. But anyone who says it’s a walk in the park is, simply put, lying.

Even those parents with seemingly endless amounts of energy will feel the strain at one point or another. After all, a baby isn’t just a part of your life – they are your life.

Mom Melody Jett Blackwell knows this as well as anyone. She was enjoying a quiet moment, lounging in her office chair as she cradled her newborn, when her boss came around the corner and caught her.

Now, Melody is fortunate enough to be permitted to take her baby, Nora-Jo, to work with her. When said boss made a rather public comment about babies in the workplace, though, little did Melody know it would propel her into the headlines.

Understand that this isn’t a bashing on Melody’s boss. No, her boss snapped a picture of Melody holding her baby at work and came to the conclusion it was simply too sweet not to share online.

The picture found its way to the Maryland Farms Chiropractic Facebook page and from there it took off.

The accompanying caption read:

“Workin’ mamas. She makes it look easy. It helps that Baby Nora-Jo is so sweet and content just being with and near her mama. Would y’all mind sharing this? We need more small and large businesses to see this is doable and should be allowed more often! The newborn months are so short. #WorkinMamas post a pic of you and your little ones while you work!”

Melody was allowed to work from home, but some days it was necessary that she was in the office to do things she couldn’t do at home. Her employer, though, allowed her to take as many breaks as she needed for herself and Nora-Jo.

Melody told Love What Matters: “I know not every office and work environment is conducive for children and babies, but I think more places can be more flexible than they are currently.

“I think many families find it almost makes more financial sense for one parent to stay home, rather than go to work just to have most or all of their checks pay for day care.”

Melody’s story is a perfect example of how effective a proper work place and support network can be. We’re so happy to see both mom and baby thriving!
