Tipping At Restaurants Just Took An Ugly Turn

If there’s one thing we know about the world around us, it’s the fact that people love to debate. They will debate about almost anything, and although they don’t usually change people’s minds, they will continue to give their opinions.

One of the things that often gets a debate going, especially when it is shared online, is the subject of tipping at a restaurant. Some people love it and others hate it, but people certainly do have strong opinions in one way or another.

A server recently got this type of conversation going on social media with a video that was recently removed. She made the statement that if people were willing to go out to a full-service restaurant but weren’t interested in leaving tips, they shouldn’t be there.

Most people understand that tipping is important for the people who serve us at restaurants. They don’t get the pay they deserve for what they do, and the restaurants expect us to make it up in the form of a tip.

This is understood and whether we like the situation or not, it’s a simple fact of life.

Of course, it isn’t only whether we tip or not, it’s also the amount of tip that we leave that often gets the debate going. Many people feel that anywhere from 15-20% is a standard tip but others say that if you don’t tip at least 20%, you aren’t tipping enough.

This is where Lily comes in. She said that if you can’t afford to tip the server, you don’t deserve to eat at a restaurant.

She starts the video by looking into the camera and saying that eating out is a privilege and not a right. She said that if you can’t afford to tip at least 20%, you should eat at home.

She talks about the debate involved with the tipping culture in the United States. Some people feel that restaurants should pay the food service employees differently, but that isn’t the reality of the world where we live.

She said: “You can b**ch and moan and tell me that my employer should be paying me a higher wage all you want, but this is America, and that’s not what is happening, OK? I get paid $3.63 from the restaurant that I work at. My earnings, my wage, comes from tips.”

She then reveals that the menu prices at the restaurant are set to a lower amount so that tips can be left.

“The food is cheaper because you’re expected to tip on it,” she said. “You don’t deserve to eat out if you cannot afford to tip.”

“Like, it’s the same thing with a nanny. If you can’t afford to pay somebody else an entire salary, you don’t deserve a nanny.”

She then said that you don’t deserve to eat out and you should order your meal to go or go to McDonald’s.

She didn’t stop there, she continued to express how annoyed she was in the caption of the video. She wrote: “And to anyone who says we should be getting paid a higher hourly…. Okay??? BUT WE AREN’T. You not tipping is just going to make your eating out experience WORSE!!!!”

There were many people who agreed with what she said but others came on to let her know that if she didn’t like it, she should find another job.

I guess this is a debate that will continue.
