A 14-year-old Florida student tragically passed away following a cardiac arrest after participating in a 5K race organized by his school’s Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program.
Knox MacEwen, who attended Western High School in Davie, Florida, was rushed to Memorial Hospital Miramar post-race on Saturday but was later pronounced dead, as reported by NBC Miami.

School principal Jimmy Arrojo reached out with a poignant message, stating, “I am saddened to share tragic news impacting our Wildcat community. One of our JROTC students passed away this morning after being transported to the hospital.”
He expressed his condolences to Knox’s family, friends, and acquaintances, recognizing the teen’s significance in their lives.
Arrojo urged the school community to “rally around the family in prayer and support during this time of deep sorrow” and informed that grief counselors would be available on campus for those grappling with the loss.
