Director of horror film shot from the killer’s perspective speaks out after audience member vomits during screening

The new horror film has been going viral lately, and director Chris Nash has some thoughts

If there’s any way to know your film is gruesome enough, an audience member vomiting will probably do the trick.

The horror genre can be a little played out depending on who you ask, as many films simply play up the cliches with obvious jump scares and boring tropes.

But one film that has certainly got some buzz around it for deciding to switch things up a little is the latest offering from director Chris Nash.

In case you haven’t been paying attention the flick- titled In a Violent Nature – is set from the perspective of the killer…yup so we won’t be following the innocent teens this time around.

But beyond this, the film – according to Nash – is particularly gory and gruesome.

So much so, that an audience member in one of the early screenings reportedly vomited.

X account Film Updates shared an audio clip from a screening of the film at the Chicago Critics Film Festival.

While it’s not quite clear if you can actually hear a person throwing up in the audio clip, you can certainly hear people ‘Ooing’ in shock, awkward laughing and erupting into cheers and applause presumably as soon as the vomit-worthy scene has ended.

Nash, who spoke to Dexerto earlier this week, reflected on the vomiting story that has been circulating on social media.

“I have no idea whether or not this is true,” he said.

“I can’t take any pride in it, although I’m also not concerned.”

So I guess vomiting during your work of art isn’t necessarily the sincerest form of flattery.

While he questioned whether the story was true or not, Nash said he is aware that ahead of big horror films debuting, stories do tend to circulate of people fainting or throwing up due to the films.

“During the premiere of Julia Ducournau’s Raw in Toronto, there were reports of patrons fainting. And I know the guy that fainted, and he had a fever heading into that movie.

“He was not well, but he was just such a fan. He was like, ‘I gotta watch this movie.’ And so it was just because he was sick that he fainted. But it doesn’t matter. If you’re sitting down and anything happens to you then that’s the story.”

People on social media are equally as sceptical but said there are certainly some scenes that could garner that reaction.

One user wrote: “If this is the scene I believe in, you can’t imagine what awaits you. It is a scene that has never been made in a horror movie, especially in a slasher. The film itself is like a Friday the 13th, but uncensored with a kind of artistic work,” one person commented.

“I was at this screening. If this is the kill I’m thinking of, people with a weak stomach might lose their lunch watching it,” another wrote.

“I’m pretty sure I know what kill this is and it’s pretty crazy,” a third wrote.

So I guess the horror/slasher genre isn’t for the faint-hearted… who knew?!
