Jennifer Lawrence says she ‘should have listened’ to Adele
Jennifer Lawrence says she ‘should have listened’ to Adele, after ignoring her warning about a movie role which flopped.
Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she regrets starring in a 2016 movie after singing legend Adele warned her that the movie would not be a success.
The space rom-com follows the story of Aurora, played by Lawrence, and Jim, played by Chris Pratt, who board a spaceship to ‘Homestead II’, but mistakenly wake up earlier than the other passengers, with 90 years left to go on their voyage.
Passengers achieved a feeble 30 percent score rotten tomatoes score, and Lawrence recently opened up about how she ‘should have listened’ to the ‘Hello’ singer.
The movie grossed $300 million (£262 million) worldwide, it cost $110 million (£89 million) to make.
Speaking of fans’ dismay, Jen said: “I was like, ‘Oh no, you guys are here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided that this was a good movie?'”

Speaking about the movies that led to her stepping back from the spotlight, such as Passengers, Lawrence told Vanity Fair last year: “I was not pumping out the quality that I should have. I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I’d gotten sick of me.
“It had just gotten to a point where I couldn’t do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, ‘Why didn’t she run?’
“I think that I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life. Working made me feel like nobody could be mad at me: ‘Okay, I said yes, we’re doing it. Nobody’s mad.’
“And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence. “So that kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul.”

Fast-forward six years and Lawrence starred in the Apple Original movie Causeway, which follows the story of Lynsey (played by Lawrence) who – while serving in Afghanistan – suffers a brain injury after her vehicle is destroyed by a bomb.
Lynsey returns to her home in New Orleans, where she struggles to adjust following her experience.
The movie was released in November 2023 and can be streamed on Apple TV+.
