People notice Johnny Depp didn’t look at Amber Heard once during entire trial and there’s a reason why

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s 2022 defamation trial capture the attention of the world

Johnny Depp’s attorney made sure that Amber Heard knew why he refused to look her in the eye during their trial.

The infamous defamation case between Depp and Heard captured the attention of the world in 2022, with hundreds of thousands of people tuning in everyday to watch it being live streamed.

Now, almost two years after Depp secured a win against his ex-wife, curious viewers can relive the whole trial through a Netflix documentary – titled Depp v. Heard.

Depp sued Heard for $50 million over a 2018 article she wrote in the Washington Post, titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”

Despite Depp not being directly named in the piece, his lawyers claimed it falsely implied he abused Heard while they were together.

Throughout the trial, Heard also accused Depp of abuse during their relationship – but the Pirates of the Caribbean actor took an interesting approach while Heard was giving evidence.

During Heard’s cross examination by Depp’s lawyer, Camille Vasquez, she was asked why she thought he hadn’t looked at her at all.

In court, Vasquez said: “Mr. Depp hasn’t looked at you once this entire trial, has he?”

To which Heard responded: “Not that I’ve noticed, no.”

“You’ve looked at him many times, haven’t you?” Vasquez continued.

The Aquaman star replied: “Yes, I have.”

Despite the lack of eye contact appearing ‘concerning’ to some spectators – perhaps implying some sort of guilt – there was actually a deep-rooted reason why Depp refused to look at Heard during the trial.

Vasquez cleared this up by saying: “You know exactly why Mr. Depp won’t look back at you, don’t you?

“He promised you would never see his eyes again, isn’t that true?”

Heard played this off as if she had no idea, but a recording between the ex-couple appeared to reveal otherwise.

Vasquez played a clip from their last meeting in 2016 in which Depp could be heard saying: “We won’t have to see each other again.

“You will not see my eyes again.”

Heard stood her ground that Depp ‘couldn’t’ look at her rather than ‘wouldn’t’.

She said: “As far as I know, he cannot look at me.”

To which Vasquez responded: “He won’t look at you, right Ms. Heard?”

Though Heard claimed: “He can’t.”

After six weeks, the trial finally concluded when the jury sided with Depp and ordered Heard to pay him $15 million in damages.

Depp vs Heard is available to stream on Netflix now.
