Supermarket giant is selling ‘doomsday food kits’ to help you survive the apocalypse

Prices for apocalypse meal kits vary from $44.99 to $6,999.99, and some have a shelf life of 25 years

Do you find yourself plagued by anxiety that the end times are on their way and you need to prepare? Well, one major supermarket has you covered.

Do they know something that we don’t? Are we talking zombies, a meteor, nuclear armageddon, global warming?

If you are under the assumption that war will break out and Putin presses the big red nuclear button… then maybe you might want to stock up.

Well, if you are preparing for armageddon then the place to go and pick up your doomsday essentials is Costco where prices range from $44.99 to as much as $6,999.99.

What’s in Costco’s apocalypse meal kits?

Well, it depends what kind of food you will be craving when gunfire and missiles are hailing down above your bomb shelter.

One kit that’s gone viral thanks to cooking blogger Jeffrey Eisner (@pressureluckcooking) is from Readywise, which specializes in emergency food supplies.

It contains 132 servings, including teriyaki rice, pasta alfredo, cheesy macaroni, apple cinnamon cereal, tomato soup with pasta, creamy pasta with vegetables, vanilla pudding, orange drink mix and chicken-flavored noodle soup, all for $63.

But there are plenty of other options too.

For just $44.99 you could pick up a three-pack of 10 cans of ‘simple kitchen pancake mix’ that has 60 servings in total and a shelf life of 25 years.

That’s breakfast sorted for 60 days. So what about your mains?

For the same price you can pick up two boxes of gluten-free teriyaki rice, a total of 20 servings, and the same number of servings for loaded baked potato casserole – again, with a shelf life of ‘up to 25 years’.

But what would $6,999.99 get you?

The crème de la crème of apocalypse packages lands you a year’s supply of food with a total of 2,814 servings.

It comes with an assortment of freeze-dried entrees, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

It includes granola with milk and blueberries, rice and chicken, spaghetti with meat sauce, breakfast skillet, Mexican adobo rice and chicken, beef stroganoff with noodles, chilli mac with beef.

Surprisingly, it has been ordered and reviewed on the wholesaler’s website seven times – with one customer giving it a five-star review just four months ago, adding ‘great piece [sic] of mind for the shelf’.

It has a 30-year shelf life, so I’m sure they’d be hoping for armageddon in that time frame.

But if you think we’ll need to be living underground sooner than 30 years, you can pick up a 32-pack of self heating meals – which includes brownies, cookies, turkey, chicken, pasta.

The downside, other than the hefty price tag at $219.99?

They only have a shelf life of three years, so unless you think it is going to ‘kick off’ in the next few years, then I’d probably give this a miss.

So there you have it, multiple price points and plenty of variety to kit out your bunker with supplies ready for the big day.
