Ex-Rockstar employee explains why he thinks GTA VI will disappoint most fans

This news could be the first disappointing stop on the hype train to Vice City for GTA VI

Fans could be in store for a rude awakening when GTA VI is released, according to a former Rockstar developer.

Now even the most casual gamer is excited for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI game following a trailer that pretty much broke the internet.

In December 2023, fans got their first glimpse into Vice City with a trailer that had eager beavers scanning every frame to get any information about the game.

It was here that the game’s developer, Rockstar Games, picked up many for the hype train and its been going non-stop ever since.

However, in a recent interview on YouTube channel Saninplay, former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij said fans could be in for disappointment when the game eventually drops in 2025.

Now this isn’t some disgruntled former employee with a grudge (as far as we know) as Vermeij left the game developer studio back in 2009.

The points he raises actually make sense when you consider just how hyped people are for the game and the hefty expectations they have for it.

During the interview, Vermeij said: “I don’t think it’s gonna be wildly different from GTA 5. I think people might be a little disappointed on the first day, but it’s still gonna be the best game out there.”

If you are a longtime fan of the Grand Theft Auto franchise you will remember the massive jumps there have been between games.

Going from a top down view in GTA 1 and 2, to fully realized 3D in the third game was crazy enough.

Even looking beyond that, GTA III was massively improved upon when we went to Vice City for the first time in the fourth game and things leapt forward again when we got to fan favorite San Andreas.

Technology-wise things continued to improve as we reached GTA IV and V but while V came out back in 2013 (you should feel old), and gaming has improved a lot, comparatively, things might not have advanced quite so much for this upcoming title.

Vermeij also agreed that technology hasn’t advanced enough to make those same big jumps but he is optimistic about the future.

He added: “There’s some rumors about creating new technology having to do with animation and AI and all that stuff. I think it’s time for a revolution where animation is more so AI-driven and physics-driven. If anyone is gonna make that step, it’s gonna be Rockstar.”

So, while this doesn’t derail the hype train, it definitely might be something to think about as we get closer to GTA’s latest release.
