A manager was filmed refusing to let an entire table leave unless they tipped their server and it’s got people debating over tipping culture.

We all know that the tipping debate can get hot and heated pretty fast. As anyone who ever worked in hospitality will know, tips are what keep many servers able to survive in this pricey world.

So, when a table you’ve served skimps on your change, it can affect your bank balance and your willingness to work.

There are those out there that think tipping is something you should do regardless of whether your service was stellar or not. Then, there are others who believe your server has to work extra hard to earn the additional money you could be giving them.

Obviously, not being tipped can be a sad shift for the person, but there’s not much you can do to force people to cough up their hard-earned cash.

As more and more people think that hospitality establishments should pay a liveable wage so their employees are not struggling to get by, the debate is hotter now than ever.

But what about someone trying to force diners to pay when they don’t want to?

That’s what the internet is divided over.

User @gladys_nicole shared a video on her TikTok page last year and praised a restaurant manager after his rather brazen act.

According to the video, which has been viewed over two million times, the unnamed manager confronted some customers and demanded that they give a tip to their waitress.

The TikToker stated that the group had been at the spot for hours and had multiple beers and played pool while they were there.

The discussion the manager has with the three guys can’t be heard clearly, but he appears to say: “Don’t forget about her, you’ve got to give her a little bit,” making a gesture for money.

Gladys alleges he tracked them down and would not let them leave before they tipped.

She wrote in the caption: “A group of men not tipping the waitress after HOURS of beer and pool table time. Restaurant manager MADE SURE she was paid!”

While Gladys appeared to be on the manager’s side, others argued that servers like the one i nquestioned should be paid better salaries so that tips aren’t so vital.

“Oh you mean the money HE and HIS COMPANY should be paying her?? Tipping culture is ridiculous. Properly pay waiters and waitresses already,” one user wrote.

“When you don’t tip your servers or bartenders they are quite literally paying out of their own pocket for you to come out and have a good time. Come on. Be better people,” a second person said.

“What’s really going manager POV: We do not and will not give them a raise so that is where customers come in so I need you to do your part now,” a third wrote. “I love how people will be willing to pay 30% more for food rather then tip a server 20%.”
