When you\u2019ve lived as long as Elton John has and spent the majority of your years in the public eye, chances are you\u2019ve got a story or two to tell.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s no great surprise that many of the oldest heads from the volatile, ever-unpredictable world of celebrity showbiz boast a veritable vault of secrets. Neither is it all that wild that many of these revelations eventually see the light of day at one point or another.<\/p>\n

Yet it can\u2019t be disputed that there are celebrities and\u00a0celebrities.<\/em> That is to say that there are levels to the game that separate those who are hesitant to walk down a high street for fear of being recognized and those who are out-of-this-world superstars.<\/p>\n

Elton John, it\u2019s safe to say, sits in the latter category. Which is perhaps why the release of his memoir,\u00a0Me,\u00a0<\/em>garnered so much attention \u2026<\/p>\n

Within the pages of\u00a0Me<\/em> there were plenty of claims made by the iconic singer, plenty of stories retold, plenty of hilarious, shocking, upsetting moments revisited.<\/p>\n

Yet it was his words on the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, that have struck something of a chord online.<\/p>\n

John told how he had met Jackson when the latter was still a young boy, before going on to describe how the years changed the\u00a0Thriller\u00a0<\/em>singer in all manner of ways, and none of them positive.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d known Michael since he was 13 or 14,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Elton wrote.\u00a0\u201cHe was just the most adorable kid you could imagine. But at some point in the\u00a0intervening years, he started sequestering himself away from the world and away from reality, the way Elvis Presley did.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Elton went on to affirm his belief that Jackson\u2019s transformation may have largely been down to his prolonged use of prescription drugs.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod knows what was going on in his head,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Elton continued,\u00a0\u201cand God knows what prescription drugs he was being pumped full of, but every time I saw him in his later years I came away thinking that the poor guy had totally lost his marbles.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Your Song\u00a0<\/em>artist added:\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t mean that in a lighthearted way. He was genuinely mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Jackson infamously became the center of a mass media storm after he was accused of sexual abuse against minors \u2013 a dark cloud that has never really been disassociated with his name, even now, many years after his passing.<\/p>\n

As for those rumors, John said simply: \u201cFor whatever reason, he couldn\u2019t seem to cope with adult company at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

John\u2019s health<\/h2>\n

Of late, the 75-year-old John has been troubled with a number of health issues.<\/p>\n

He was forced to postpone and reschedule many of the dates on his\u00a0Farewell Yellow Brick Road<\/em>\u00a0tour until 2023 in a bid to aid his recovery.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week,\u00a0reports emerged\u00a0suggesting that Elton had declined an offer to perform at King Charles\u2019s coronation concert. He famously performed\u00a0Candle in the Wind\u00a0<\/em>at Princess Diana\u2019s funeral, but will not be appearing at the ceremony to officially confirm her ex-husband\u2019s position as the new monarch of England.<\/p>\n
