A 25-year-old woman in the United States who couldn\u2019t stop burping has revealed her symptom was caused by undiagnosed, late-stage cancer.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0People<\/em>, Bailey McBreen from Florida started burping frequently \u2013 up to 10 times a day \u2013 in 2021. She put the symptom off for months, but she got checked when it progressed to acid reflux and \u201cexcruciating\u201d stomach cramps. Ms McBreen revealed that she was eventually diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer, which came as a \u201chuge shock\u201d to her and her family.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first sign something was wrong \u2013 although I didn\u2019t know it at the time \u2013 was when I began excessively burping,\u201d Ms McBreen told\u00a0NeedToKnow.<\/em> \u201cI would burp 5-10 times a day. This was not normal for me,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Ms McBreen explained that her health started deteriorating and she started dealing with \u201cexcruciating\u201d pain, a loss of appetite and an inability to go to the bathroom. As a nurse, she then trusted her instincts that she had some sort of \u201cobstruction\u201d and immediately went to the hospital. Later, a CT scan revealed that she had stage 3 colon cancer and a tumour obstructing her large intestine.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never thought it could be linked to such a horrible disease,\u201d she said. \u201cIt truly was an out-of-body experience,\u201d the 25-year-old added of her diagnosis. \u201cI remember the first thing I could say was, \u2018I am not ready to die.\u2019 Never in a million years did I think that any vague symptom I had was actually stage 3 colon cancer,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Further, Ms McBreen told\u00a0NeedToKnow.co.uk<\/em> that she believes the nonstop burping was linked to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which began a month after noticing the burping.<\/p>\n

\u201cExcessive burping isn\u2019t your textbook sign of colon cancer \u2013 but my oncologist told me that it was likely the start of my symptoms,\u201d she said. \u201cGERD was a symptom in my case because my tumor was slowly causing a complete bowel obstruction,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0People<\/em>, following her diagnosis, Ms McBreen had emergency surgery to remove the tumour. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy until the end of August.<\/p>\n
