\u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d watchers were startled, amused, and a bit incredulous after the iconic game show featured a puzzle that some thought was downright \u201ckinky.\u201d While some saw the humor in it, others bemoaned the word choice, lambasting the family show over it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d \u2014 a popular game show which debuted in 1975, where contestants solve hangman-style puzzles containing hidden phrases by guessing letters one at a time after spinning a prize wheel \u2014 left viewers stunned and in disbelief after one puzzle seemed to allude to something \u201ckinky.\u201d While many found it downright hilarious, others were none too pleased, scolding the producers for going too far on the iconic family show.<\/p>\n

The puzzle, which was solved by contestant Adam Goodell, fell into a category called \u201cbefore & after,\u201d where the beginning (before) of one common phrase is combined with the end (after) of another sharing the same word. Goodell was left with the clue: \u201cBR-S-ING \u2014 ON \u2014 ITALIAN SA-SAGE,\u201d and he obviously understood that each word in the phrase related to the previous word in the puzzle by way of a popular phrase or word pairing to make up a new phrase.<\/p>\n

An example of a \u201cbefore & after\u201d puzzle could be \u201cNewspaper Article of Clothing,\u201d where \u201cNewspaper article\u201d and \u201cArticle of clothing\u201d \u2014 both being common phrases or word pairings \u2014 are combined into a new, nonsensical phrase. Another might be \u201cTickled Pink Floyd,\u201d where \u201cTickled Pink\u201d and \u201cPink Floyd\u201d are smashed together into a new phrase.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for \u201cWheel of Fortune,\u201d when Goodell unveiled the answer to such a puzzle on a Thursday night, many found the newly created phrase to be too risque. Combining \u201cBrushing up on my Italian\u201d and \u201cItalian sausage\u201d for the \u201cbefore & after\u201d puzzle, the answer was \u201cBrushing up on my Italian sausage,\u201d according to Fox News. And, even the game show host was aware of the possible connotation.<\/p>\n

After Goodell correctly guessed the phrase, Pat Sajak looked surprised. \u201cYeah, that\u2019s it,\u201d he chuckled after the puzzle was solved. \u201cIt\u2019s a grilling expression!\u201d Pat added with a smirk. Goodell earned $2,450 for solving the puzzle and was able to advance to the bonus round, The Sun reported, but it was the flurry of comments on social media that made headlines as viewers expressed both bewilderment and amusement over the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cBruh what intern must [have] made the puzzle \u2018brushing up on my Italian sausage\u2019 I\u2019m dead,\u201d wrote a third.<\/p>\n

With one viewer attributing the puzzle to an intern, another suggested it must have been devised by \u201cJanice in accounting.\u201d Yet another deemed the puzzle \u201ckinky\u201d as another user quipped, \u201cI think the jokes write themselves.\u201d Of course, not everyone was laughing. Some were seemingly deeply offended, with one such user saying their 85-year-old mother watched the program.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis used to be a family show,\u201d tweeted one commenter, who said you \u201ccan\u2019t let kids watch it anymore,\u201d with another echoing the same sentiments: \u201cCome on #WheelOfFortune this is supposed to be a family show!\u201d Others were quick to blame the kerfuffle on \u201csick minds\u201d as one comment pointed to the real \u201cproblem\u201d \u2014 and it wasn\u2019t the show\u2019s producers, letting a puzzle in pour taste slide, with whom they found fault.<\/p>\n

\u201c#wheeloffortune it\u2019s the sick minds out there that automatically see something bad in things. This is obviously a before and after puzzle. Brushing up on my Italian, Italian sausage,\u201d the commenter suggested. So, is this the result of a \u201csick mind\u201d? If so, does the sick mind belong to the creator of the puzzle, who allegedly went too far, or the \u201coffended\u201d viewer with the \u201ckinky\u201d perception of it?
