Each episode of the nature documentary explores a different biome or habitat, such as deserts, oceans and polar regions, and shows viewers \u2014 through stunning footage \u2014 how wildlife survives in these ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>Sir David Attenborough narrated both series (although some international versions have different narrators \u2014\u00a0Sigourney Weaver presented\u00a0<em>Planet Earth<\/em>\u00a0in the US), providing insights with his authoritative expertise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA hundred years ago, there were one and a half billion people on Earth. Now, over six billion crowd our fragile planet,\u201d Attenborough introduces the original series. \u201cBut even so, there are still places barely touched by humanity. This series will take you to the last wildernesses and show you the planet and its wildlife as you have never seen them before.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Planet Earth Trailer - The Complete Series\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tiVNk6_0GdY?feature=oembed\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>For many people, Attenborough is synonymous with the classic documentary series and it wouldn\u2019t be the same without him. A third\u00a0<em>Planet Earth<\/em>\u00a0series was announced in 2019, but it wasn\u2019t clear if Attenborough, now 96, would return again.<\/p>\n<p>But now, it\u2019s confirmed that Attenborough will return as the presenter and narrator of\u00a0<em>Planet Earth III<\/em>, due to release sometime this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Planet Earth<\/em>\u00a0wouldn\u2019t be\u00a0<em>Planet Earth<\/em>\u00a0without David, so I\u2019m delighted he is presenting the third series,\u201d executive producer Mike Gunton said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/mediacentre\/bbcstudios\/2023sir-david-attenborough-announced-to-present-planet-earth-three-\">BBC press release<\/a>. \u201cAs ever, he has brought his huge enthusiasm and wisdom, has been encouraging about our new perspective and has, I know, really enjoyed seeing the extraordinary new wonders brought to the screen.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30864 lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-djur.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/06174715\/GettyImages-2588649.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"729\" height=\"1024\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn-djur.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/06174715\/GettyImages-2588649.jpg\" data-eio-rwidth=\"729\" data-eio-rheight=\"1024\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA \u2013 OCTOBER 13: A python greets Sir David Attenborough during a photo opportunity at Taronga Park Zoo October 13, 2003 in Sydney, Australia. Attenborough, a leading natural history authority and distinguished broadcaster, is visiting Australia until October 23 to promote the second part of his natural history series \u201cThe Life of Mammals\u201d and his memoirs \u201cLife on Air.\u201d (Photo by Daniel Berehulak\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Attenborough has reportedly already filmed his opening in the British countryside, and was blessed with unusually good weather on the day of filming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe opening of the series with David was filmed in the beautiful British countryside in exactly the location where Charles Darwin used to walk whilst thinking over his Earth-shaking ideas about evolution,\u201d Gunton said. \u201cIt seemed the perfect place for David to introduce\u00a0<em>Planet Earth III<\/em>\u00a0and remind us of both the wonders and the fragility of our planet\u2026 and for him, of course, the sun shined under blue skies one of the only days it did all summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Planet Earth III<\/em>\u00a0will premiere on BBC One this year; it will consist of eight hour-long episodes. It is reported to be the final\u00a0<em>Planet Earth<\/em>\u00a0series, concluding a trilogy. It won four Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award, and attracted high ratings.<\/p>\n<p>The sequel\u00a0<em>Planet Earth II<\/em>\u00a0received equal acclaim and the two are regarded as some of the best nature documentaries ever. He has been presenting nature documentaries with the BBC since the 1950s; his work includes the\u00a0<em>Life<\/em>\u00a0series,\u00a0<em>Zoo Quest<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Wildlife on One<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Natural World<\/em>.
