Breaking a world record is a truly incredible feat, though you certainly don\u2019t want to risk your life in order to achieve it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, Kate Winslet falls into that bracket after her starring role in the\u00a0Avatar<\/em>\u00a02022 sequel\u00a0The Way of Water<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Those who have watched the movie \u2013 though it is pretty obvious with the name \u2013 will know the flick is set in the ocean.<\/p>\n

And anyone who has watched a\u00a0James Cameron<\/a>\u00a0film will know that the director loves to take detail to the next level.<\/p>\n

Water is a pretty difficult one to master in films, so Cameron had the added pressure of making it work.<\/p>\n

During the filming process, the actors in the\u00a0Avatar<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>movie had to undergo rigorous training in order to act whilst being submerged in 30 feet water tanks.<\/p>\n

This included learning to extend the amount of time they could hold their breath underwater.<\/p>\n

You can see where this is heading.<\/p>\n

Winslet \u2013 who portrays Ronal, the female leader of the oceanic community \u2013 took to this training incredibly well, so much so that she managed to\u00a0hold her breath for a whopping seven minutes<\/a> and 14 seconds.<\/p>\n

By doing so, the British actress broke the on-set record, toppling Tom Cruise\u2019s six minutes, which he achieved while filming\u00a0Mission: Impossible \u2013 Rogue Nation<\/em>.<\/p>\n

And if you don\u2019t believe her, well, apparently she\u2019s got the video footage to prove it.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Total Film ahead of\u00a0Avatar: The Way of Water\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0release in 2022, the 48-year-old said the record-breaking act didn\u2019t come without its consequences.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have the video of me surfacing saying, \u2018Am I dead, have I died?\u2019 And then going, \u2018What was [my time]?’\u201d\u00a0she told the outlet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cStraight away I wanted to know my time. And I couldn\u2019t believe it\u2026 The next thing I say is, \u2018We need to radio set.\u2019 I wanted Jim to know right away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Winslet also brushed off rumors that she was made to put herself through such a physical challenge, adding: \u201cWell, I didn\u2019t have to hold my breath for over seven minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just that the opportunity to set a record presented itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to break my own record, which was already six minutes and 14 seconds. And I was like, \u2018Come on!\u2019 So I smashed my own record by a minute.\u201d<\/p>\n

And she did it in style \u2013 and by that, we mean she did it without dying.<\/p>\n
