NFL player Harrison Butker\u2019s controversial graduation speech has gathered even more criticism after a sports anchor slammed the star.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NBC\u00a0Sports<\/a>\u00a0Boston anchor, Trenni Casey, has labelled the misogynistic speech by the athlete as \u2018dehumanizing\u2019 and \u2018hateful\u2019 in a 4-minute\u00a0TV<\/a>\u00a0address on Thursday (16 May).<\/p>\n

During the controversial speech, Butker made jokes that he had become known for not speaking his mind and here lies the problem.\u00a0His speech has been deemed both sexist, homophobic and offensive for his comments<\/a>\u00a0about the LGBTQ+ community, women in the workplace and abortion.<\/p>\n

In response, Casey told NBC viewers: \u201cHarrison Butker isn\u2019t nearly the talent or the star Colin Kaepernick once was, but he should be treated the same: blacklisted, and this time it would actually be justified.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that she \u2018strongly\u2019 believes in free speech and the \u2018right to hold opinions that are different from [her] own\u2019. However, she also told viewers: \u201cI also believe there are consequences for speaking out.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a big difference between opinion and dehumanizing hateful speech.\u201d<\/p>\n

Highlighting Butker\u2019s speech, she said he is \u2018entitled to think differently\u2019 and said he is \u2018allowed to align his views with the Catholic church on sensitive topics\u2019 in the aftermath of the speech.<\/p>\n

Her 4 minute speech also explained that she didn\u2019t believe his jokes gave his point of view: \u201cInstead, the 28-year-old Chiefs kicker spent 20 minutes espousing the greatest hits of bigotry, antisemitism, misogyny, homophobia [and] anti-diversity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cThe trope he\u2019s pushing? It\u2019s the same one Nazis used during the Holocaust, arguing that the murders of 6 million Jews was punishment for the murder of Jesus by their ancestors. It should be noted that the Catholic Church has already denounced this narrative back in 1964, yet on Saturday, Butker was pushing the lie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casey also slammed Butker for comparing Pride Month to a \u2018deadly sin\u2019 and \u2018making sure everyone knows that women are nothing more than vessels for children and wives\u2019 to husbands.<\/p>\n

She continued the rant by adding: \u201cI am so tired of people telling us at the center of these dehumanizing rants that we need to respect everyone\u2019s opinion. No. We don\u2019t, and we don\u2019t have to tolerate it, either.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are not allowed to go out of your way and belittle, degrade and depict groups that don\u2019t look like you as subhuman. That\u2019s not an opinion. That is hate. Plain and simple.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casey also pointed out Butker\u2019s now famous reference to Taylor Swift after he said: \u201cAs my teammate\u2019s girlfriend says, familiarity breeds contempt,\u201d in reference to Swift\u2019s song\u00a0Bejeweled<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Casey referenced the Taylor Swift nod as she added that him referring to Swift as \u2018my teammate\u2019s girlfriend\u2019 because that\u2019s \u2018all she is in his mind,\u2019. Casey concluded the speech: \u201cHe chose to quote a song called \u2018Bejeweled,\u2019 but it feels inappropriate for Butker who more closely aligns with a newer song she wrote, \u2018The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casey\u2019s speech has won praise from fans online, with many taking to social media to praise her words. One person wrote on TikTok: \u201cShe came, then conquered, and she didn\u2019t leave a damn crumb.\u201d<\/p>\n
