Police have launched a criminal inquiry into the death of\u00a0Friends<\/em>\u00a0star Matthew Perry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The star died in October last year<\/a>\u00a0after being found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home.<\/p>\n

Two months after his passing in December, the LA County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office determined\u00a0Perry died of ‘acute effects of ketamine’<\/a>, adding that the manner of the death was accidental.<\/p>\n

The autopsy also listed ‘drowning, coronary artery disease and the opioid buprenorphine’ as contributors to his death.<\/p>\n

Now, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and The Drug Enforcement Adminstration (DEA) has confirmed that a joint criminal investigation is underway to look into how Perry obtained the drugs found in his system.<\/p>\n

According to<\/a>\u00a0The Guardian, Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for anxiety and depression – which the actor spoke about in his 2022 memoir,\u00a0Friends, Lovers and The Big Terrible Thing.<\/em><\/p>\n

However, his last known infusion was a week and a half prior to his death, meaning that the drugs in his system weren’t related to an infusion.<\/p>\n

The contents from the infusion would also have been in his system for three to four hours,\u00a0as per<\/a>\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n

In a statement provided to press, the LAPD said: “Based on the medical examiner\u2019s findings, the Los Angeles\u00a0Police<\/a>\u00a0Department (LAPD), with the assistance of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the United States Postal Inspection Service, has continued its investigation into the circumstances of Mr Perry\u2019s death.”<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson added that detectives from robbery-homicide division were heading up the police inquiry, The Telegraph\u00a0reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is still unclear how far along the investigation is – which was first reported by TMZ. No arrests have been made in relation to the probe either.<\/p>\n

Perry achieved global fame with his role of Chandler Bing in\u00a0Friends<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and he’d been very open about his\u00a0struggle with addiction to alcohol and opioids<\/a>, most prominently in his book.<\/p>\n

And recently, his\u00a0Friends<\/em>\u00a0co-star,\u00a0Courteney Cox spoke about how Perry still \u2018visits\u2019 her.<\/a><\/p>\n

“I\u2019m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years. He visits me a lot, if we believe in that,” she told CBS’ Sunday Morning programme.<\/p>\n

She explained: “I talk to my mom, my dad, Matthew. I feel like there are a lot of people that, I think, guide us.<\/p>\n
