Strap in as we have found the 10 scariest films from the 2010s<\/h2>\n

The 2010s was an incredible decade for horror films.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the newfound prominence of A24, Blumhouse, resurgence of classic franchises, and directors such as Mike Flanagan, Jordan Peele, and Ari Aster coming to the fore.<\/p>\n

Now then is a great time to look back on 10 of the scariest\u00a0films<\/a>\u00a0from the last decade.<\/p>\n

This list is sure to have something that will put the fear in even the most veteran of\u00a0horror<\/a>\u00a0watchers.<\/p>\n

The 10 on this list are from a list of the scariest films of the decade according to the BFI.<\/p>\n

It Follows<\/strong><\/h2>\n

2014\u2019s\u00a0It Follows<\/em>\u00a0has a remarkably simple concept when boiled down to it \u2013 a demonic STI.<\/p>\n

While the film is obviously more than that moniker, it\u2019s all I needed to be convinced to watch this brilliant horror film.<\/p>\n

The tension throughout is outstanding, the twists will shock you, and you will be tempted to join a monastery after watching this.<\/p>\n

The Town that Dreaded Sundown<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The film is a spiritual sequel to a 70s cult classic. (Orion Pictures)<\/cite><\/div>\n

Some people are just immediately talented to an unfair level, and this film being director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.<\/p>\n

A spiritual sequel to the 1976 film of the same name, this literally opens with a local drive-in theatre hosting a screening of the original.<\/p>\n

While the name may indicate a supernatural vampire flick, this is in actual fact a terrifying and tense slasher film, based on a real-life serial killer. Scary and brilliant, it\u2019s well worth a watch.<\/p>\n

The Invitation<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Never,<\/div>\n

Never, ever, accept a dinner invite from your creepy ex-wife. (Drafthouse Films)<\/cite><\/div>\n

This movie proves two things. If your ex-wife invites you to a dinner party, never go. If your ex-wife and her new husband start talking about the cult they joined, run.<\/p>\n

This lesser known horror mystery is an underrated watch that sadly flopped at the box office.<\/p>\n

Hopefully though it will find a second life as a cult classic, with an outstanding 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.<\/p>\n

Under the Shadow<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"The<\/div>\n

The film is available on Netflix. (Netflix)<\/cite><\/div>\n

Under the Shadow<\/em>\u00a0combines some of the most terrifying aspects of the real world, with a hauntingly scary otherworldly creature.<\/p>\n

Created by a British-Iranian filmmaker, it follows a mother and daughter in 1980s Tehran hiding from bombing during the War of the Cities between Iraq and Iran.<\/p>\n

While hiding out they are haunted by a Djinn, with the BFI calling this ‘the most purely frightening film on this list’, and it’s available on\u00a0Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gerald\u2019s Game<\/strong><\/h2>\n

An adaptation of a\u00a0Stephen King<\/a>\u00a0novel long thought to be \u2018unfilmable\u2019,\u00a0Gerald\u2019s Game\u00a0<\/em>kicked off Mike Flanagan\u2019s run of non-stop horror bangers.<\/p>\n

From the\u00a0Haunting of Hill House<\/em>\u00a0series to\u00a0Dr Sleep<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Midnight Mass<\/em>, Flanagan is one of the best in the world at making filmgoers sh*t themselves, and this is no exception.<\/p>\n

So scary\u00a0it had audience members literally passing out<\/a>\u00a0from fear,\u00a0Gerald\u2019s Game\u00a0<\/em>is not for the light hearted.<\/p>\n

Get Out<\/strong><\/h2>\n

My personal favourite,\u00a0Get Out\u00a0<\/em>is one of the greatest announcements to the horror scene that any director has ever pulled off.<\/p>\n

Jordan Peele\u2019s directorial debut was a worldwide phenomenon, this fact means that it can often be lost in the buzz how purely scary\u00a0Get Out\u00a0<\/em>is.<\/p>\n

Similarly to\u00a0Under the Shadow<\/em>,\u00a0Get Out\u00a0<\/em>is brilliant at combining supernatural elements with aspects that are heightened by our real-life knowledge of the world the characters live in.<\/p>\n

Good Manners<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Go<\/div>\n

Go in blind and you won’t be disappointed. (Good Fortune Films)<\/cite><\/div>\n

With a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 96 percent, the BFI calls this the \u2018greatest contemporary horror film you\u2019ve never seen\u2019, and we are tempted to agree with them.<\/p>\n

Having never seen it prior to this list, I can confirm it had me hiding behind the sofa.<\/p>\n

Best experienced with as little details as possible, the 2017 horror by Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra is a lesser known gem.<\/p>\n

One Cut of the Dead<\/strong><\/h2>\n

While they\u2019ve been desensitized massively by shows such as\u00a0The Walking Dead<\/em>, between\u00a0One Cut of the Dead<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Last of Us<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 there is life yet in genuinely scary zombie films.<\/p>\n

As funny as it is scary, it is bizarre, unique, and one of the scariest \u2018horror-comedy\u2019 films of the decade.<\/p>\n

Following a film crew tasked with shooting a one-take film of zombie horror film, it shows them being genuinely attacked by real zombies. If that pitch doesn\u2019t get you out of bed, I don\u2019t know what will.<\/p>\n

Hereditary<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Far more than the two scenes that went viral of it,\u00a0Hereditary\u00a0<\/em>was so good it had people calling for an\u00a0Oscar<\/a>\u00a0nomination for Toni Colette.<\/p>\n

One of A24\u2019s multiple outstanding horror films of the 2010\u2019s, the psychological horror will have you seeing ghosts in your living room.<\/p>\n

Scary, tense, and lives up to the hype.<\/p>\n

The Lighthouse<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The final one on the list is the most bizarre, as many Robert Eggers’ films are.<\/p>\n

Starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattison as lighthouse keepers, it stretches across various genres.<\/p>\n
