{"id":12572,"date":"2024-06-15T10:04:43","date_gmt":"2024-06-15T10:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/used82.com\/?p=12572"},"modified":"2024-06-15T10:04:43","modified_gmt":"2024-06-15T10:04:43","slug":"scientists-discover-one-of-the-biggest-countries-in-the-world-is-splitting-in-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/used82.com\/?p=12572","title":{"rendered":"Scientists discover one of the biggest countries in the world is &#8216;splitting in two"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"summary_summary__q_VAA\">A study suggested that the plate beneath Indian was splitting<\/h2>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\"><strong>A study has suggested that the tectonic plate located beneath India&#8217;s could be dividing into two.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\"><a class=\"link_link__LDfG6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/india\">India<\/a>\u00a0is the seventh largest country in\u00a0<a class=\"link_link__LDfG6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/world-news\">the world<\/a>, coming in behind the likes of Australia, Brazil and\u00a0<a class=\"link_link__LDfG6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/us-news\">the US.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">It&#8217;s said to be approximately 3.287 million km\u00b2 and, if it was to be divided vertically &#8211; it would become two countries each around the size of Mongolia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">But India isn&#8217;t thought to be splitting vertically, and\u00a0<a class=\"link_link__LDfG6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/science\">scientists<\/a> believe it&#8217;s potentially sheering horizontally instead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The theory was first presented at the American Geophysical Union conference which took place in December 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The\u00a0<a class=\"link_link__LDfG6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/science\">study<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; titled &#8216;Slab tearing and delamination of the Indian lithospheric mantle during flat-slab subduction, southeast Tibet&#8217; &#8211; looks into the formation of the Himalaya.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The Himalaya is a mountain range spanning over five countries &#8211;
