The Canadian star was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022<\/h2>\n

Canadian singer Celine Dion has admitted she was \u2018very nervous\u2019 to present Taylor Swift her Grammy Award earlier this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In February, 34-year-old\u00a0Swift<\/a>\u2019s album\u00a0Midnights<\/em>\u00a0took home the prestigious Album of the Year gong – beating out the likes of Jon Batiste, Boygenius,\u00a0Olivia Rodrigo<\/a>\u00a0and SZA.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the \u2018Bad Blood\u2019 hitmaker receiving her\u00a0Grammy<\/a>, Dion, 56, was introduced at the Crypto.com Arena in\u00a0Los Angeles<\/a> to hand over the grand prize.<\/p>\n

Months after the event, the\u00a0Canadian<\/a>\u00a0singer admitted it had been an \u2018honor\u2019 to appear at the 66th Grammy Awards to present Swift with the trophy.<\/p>\n

“It was [her] fourth [time] winning this award, which is exceptional,\u201d she\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0People.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was going to be my first time [back at the Grammys], and I didn’t want to feel wobbly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was going to be very, very nervous and happy at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dion,\u00a0who suffers from a little-known illness called Stiff Person Syndrome\u00a0<\/a>(SPS), can sometimes enter a crisis episode if her brain is overstimulated and was worried that her legs wouldn\u2019t be \u2018ready\u2019 to walk out to the audience.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a lot,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n

However, when she stepped out on the stage in\u00a0California<\/a>\u00a0she was accompanied by her 23-year-old son Ren\u00e9-Charles to steady her.<\/p>\n

Despite her hesitance, her surprise appearance was met with a standing ovation and a round of applause from the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I felt that love, I had no doubt that [this is what] I miss and what I want. To see that I’m still in it and that they allowed me to be there… I enjoyed every moment\u201d.<\/p>\n

She added that she was so grateful that her son kept an eye on her and repeatedly asked her if she was okay on stage.<\/p>\n

In December 2022, Dion admitted that she had been \u2018dealing with problems\u2019 regarding her\u00a0health<\/a>\u00a0\u2018for a long time\u2019 and that she had been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder.<\/p>\n

According\u00a0to<\/a>\u00a0Mayo Clinic, stiff-person syndrome is a motor function characterized by involuntary stiffness of axial muscles.<\/p>\n

Sufferers can also experience superimposed painful muscle spasms, which are often induced by startle or emotional stimuli.<\/p>\n

Symptoms include stiffness, spasms and exaggerated startle responses which sometimes result in falling.<\/p>\n

Fans of Dion will be able to see how the singer’s health plight has been affecting her in the new documentary,\u00a0I Am: Celine Dion<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Directed by Irene Taylor, the\u00a0Amazon Prime<\/a> movie will detail the \u2018My Heart Will Go On\u2019 singer\u2019s life, accomplishments and battle with stiff-person syndrome.<\/p>\n
