An OceanGate co-founder claims humans can \u2018safely\u2019 be sent to habituate Venus – despite experts believing it\u2019s almost impossible for us to survive on the planet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guillermo S\u00f6hnlein, 58, and the late\u00a0Stockton Rush<\/a>, 61, co-founded the company behind the\u00a0Titan submersible<\/a>\u00a0in 2009.<\/p>\n

Rush was onboard the\u00a0OceanGate<\/a>\u00a0vessel along with Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawood and Sulaiman Dawood when it suffered a \u2018catastrophic implosion\u2019 just hours into a trip to see the\u00a0Titanic wreckage<\/a>\u00a0site last year.<\/p>\n

His former business partner, S\u00f6hnlein, has since outlined plans for his new venture.<\/p>\n

Writing on his blog in April this year, the Argentinian-born businessman revealed how he thinks humanity can survive on\u00a0Venus<\/a>\u00a0and overcome its various inhospitable challenges.<\/p>\n

S\u00f6hnlein believes that by utilising \u2018breathing apparatus and acid-resistant materials\u2019 humans can adapt to the\u00a0planet\u2019s atmosphere<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Moreover, he also claims that Venus\u2019 864 degrees Fahrenheit surface shouldn\u2019t be an issue for\u00a0Earth<\/a>\u00a0dwellers as long as 50km homes and buildings are erected.<\/p>\n

This is because experts claim conditions 50km above Venus\u2019 surface are similar to those on Earth,\u00a0as per<\/a>\u00a0The Independent.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could embark on our Venusian journey TODAY… and do it safely and cost-effectively,\u201d typed the OceanGate co-founder in April.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is that Venus is much closer to Earth and has a much more similar orbit, which makes it much more accessible than\u00a0Mars<\/a>\u00a0(lower cost, more frequent flight windows, shorter transit times, higher safety, etc.).<\/p>\n

Furthermore, S\u00f6hnlein argues that\u00a0NASA<\/a>\u00a0could send humans to Venus before Mars – despite astronauts having never travelled physically further than the\u00a0Moon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, we don\u2019t have to worry about conducting successful landings on the planet\u2019s surface, which is one of the biggest challenges awaiting us on Mars.\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anything, one could argue that sending humans to Venus BEFORE sending them to Mars might be a better way to safely develop the capabilities to create a Martian community,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

The former Marine Corp, who departed OceanGate in 2013, co-founded the Humans2Venus Foundation in 2020 – a nonprofit organization \u2018dedicated to promoting Venus as a potential long-term destination for humanity.\u2019<\/p>\n

Speaking about his planet-focused project last year, S\u00f6hnlein said: “I think I’ve been driven to help make humanity a multi-planet species since I was 11 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had this recurring dream of being the commander of the first Martian colony.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u00a0added to<\/a>\u00a0Business Insider last year that he believes 1,000 humans could be living in The Evening Star\u2019s clouds by 2050.<\/p>\n
