Did you know that Pepsi hasn’t always been called Pepsi?<\/h2>\n

Pepsi drinkers have been left baffled after discovering what the drink was originally called.<\/p>\n

The battle between Coca-Cola and Pepsi is probably something that will never be agreed upon.<\/p>\n

However, we all know there is nothing better than whipping out a nice, cold can of\u00a0soda<\/a>\u00a0out of the fridge on a warm day.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s face it\u2026 we don\u2019t even need warm\u00a0weather<\/a> as an excuse.<\/p>\n

But you might not be aware that Pepsi – which is concocted from sugar, water, caramel, and spices – was actually introduced under a completely different name.<\/p>\n

And it seems as though the creator was lacking real inspiration.<\/p>\n

In 1893, Caleb D. Bradham, from North Carolina, began selling the carbonated drink at a local pharmacy when he left university.<\/p>\n

As something which started as a side hustle to generate a bit of\u00a0extra cash<\/a>, we\u2019d say it\u2019s been pretty successful.<\/p>\n

It turns out that Bradham looked inward when naming the drink, and chose to go for a variation of his last name.<\/p>\n

The original product was called \u2018Brad\u2019s drink\u2019… and just imagine if it had stayed like that!<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until about half a decade later that Bradham bought the name \u2018Pep Kola\u2019 from a nearby competitor and then finally settled on Pepsi-Cola.<\/p>\n

According to linguistics, the name \u2018Pepsi\u2019 is derived from the Greek work for \u2018digestion\u2019, which makes a lot of sense when you look at the brand\u2019s old slogan.<\/p>\n

In 1904, its message was \u2018Exhilarating, Invigorating, Aids Digestion\u2019.<\/p>\n

After making the revelation about the brand’s name, Pepsi lovers have taken to X to share their thoughts.<\/p>\n

One person said: \u201cI just learned that Pepsi was originally called Brad’s drink.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo anyway, I’m going to be reeling from that for a week or so.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another added: \u201cBrad’s Drink sounds like the name of a 90s alt-rock album.\u201d<\/p>\n

While a third said: \u201cWhat? ? ? Oh my God.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the name changes, the logo has always been very similar.<\/p>\n

In fact, the\u00a0last time its logo had a revamp<\/a>\u00a0was in March 2023.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons behind this was because many people couldn’t actually recall the actual Pepsi logo but had an idea that it included a variant of the red, blue and white colours and the text somewhere on or in the circle.<\/p>\n

PepsiCo\u2019s first ever Chief Design Officer Mauro Porcini told CNN: “We couldn\u2019t ignore that kind of insight.<\/p>\n

“Instead of rejecting it, we decided to embrace it.”<\/p>\n

The ‘Pepsi’ in the logo is ‘decoupled from the globe’ noted Pepsi\u2019s Chief Marketing Officer Todd Kaplan.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s this lowercase, italicised font, the blue is a little bit muted \u2026 it doesn\u2019t exude that confidence and energy that the brand really represents,” he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
