Boxing fans are calling the approaching bout between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson a \u2018televised sparring session\u2019 after learning of all the approved rule changes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Former undisputed heavyweight champion\u00a0Tyson<\/a>, 58, is now just a day away from\u00a0returning to the ring<\/a>\u00a0to resume his prolific\u00a0boxing career.<\/a><\/p>\n

On Friday (November 15), the father-of-seven is set to come face-to-face with 27-year-old\u00a0Jake Paul<\/a>, who serves as his first pro opponent since his shock defeat to\u00a0Ireland<\/a>\u2019s Kevin McBride in 2005.<\/p>\n

\u2018Iron\u2019 Mike vs \u2018The Problem Child\u2019 was initially\u00a0delayed earlier this year<\/a>\u00a0when\u00a0Tyson suffered a health emergency.<\/a>\u00a0But after months of anticipation and back-and-forth, the pair will descend on the AT&T Stadium in Arlington,\u00a0Texas<\/a>, tomorrow (Friday 15 November).<\/p>\n

Fans who aren\u2019t\u00a0willing to fork out \u00a32 million for a VIP ticket<\/a>\u00a0can tune in to a stream via\u00a0Netflix<\/a>, with coverage of the full fight card commencing from 8 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n

Three major conditions of Tyson and Paul’s fight<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ahead of the fight, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has laid down three major conditions for the sanctioned fight between Paul and Tyson to go ahead.<\/p>\n

One of the first major rule changes approved by the TDLR is that the sportsmen will be wearing 14oz gloves instead of the standard 10oz gloves worn in a heavyweight fight.<\/p>\n

Contrary to popular opinion, heavier gloves do not actually hit harder. They actually have the opposite effect, which is why they\u2019re almost exclusively worn during sparring sessions.<\/p>\n

The bout will also see headguards being banned while three impartial judges will stand ringside and score in the eventuality that there is no knockout.<\/p>\n

Another major ruling is that instead of the traditional 12 three-minute rounds, the Tyson and Paul clash has been reduced to eight two-minute competitions.<\/p>\n

Mike Tyson’s call for ‘more action’<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Tyson has claimed it was his decision to shorten the rounds, claiming: \u201cIf we have shorter rounds, we\u2019ll fight more. More action\u201d.<\/p>\n

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions,\u00a0added<\/a>: “It was [Tyson’s] choice, not that Jake didn’t want to do it [as a sanctioned fight].<\/p>\n

“We were bringing Mike Tyson back into the sport, and I believe that it was more meaningful as a pro fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

The divisive rule changes have sparked conversation among fans though, with one taking to\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0to write: “Nope. Two minute rounds . Heavier more padded gloves! This is strictly built for entertaining Jake\u2019s fans. That being said, Tyson in 2.”<\/p>\n

A second disgruntled fan commented: \u201cIf it’s pro fight then the rules also must be in pro boxing rule.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPractically a\u00a0televised<\/a>\u00a0sparring session,\u201d remarked someone else, while a fourth commented: \u201cSanctioned as a professional fight yet it’s only 8 rounds in total and everyone knows for a fact Jake Paul is not a professional boxer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those in favor of the new rule changes<\/strong><\/h2>\n

However many others have come out in defense of match, with one excited fan writing: \u201cThe two minute rule is HUGE. At Tyson’s age, a two minute sprint, one minute recovery is much easier than three on, one off.”<\/p>\n

\u201c2 min fights good, y’all have no attention span no excuse to miss the fight now, should be the most viewed fight,\u201d said another.<\/p>\n

Tyson vs Paul serves as the latter\u2019s first pro fight since 2005 and the follow-up to his 2020 exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr in 2020.<\/p>\n

Opposite him the YouTuber has 11 professional bouts under his belt, with his latest being his TKO victory over Mike Perry, 33, last July.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
