Though he\u2019s immortalized on screen, in real life, mortality has been a merciless foe to\u00a0Keanu Reeves<\/a>, who spent years lamenting the loss of his baby Ava, her mother, a best friend, and almost his sister\u2013who says he\u2019s her \u201cprince.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

After years of trauma, the shy and soft-hearted star said he was feeling \u201calone,\u201d until he found\u2013as his alter ego Ted would say\u2013his \u201crighteous babe,\u201d Alexandra Grant. And, an insider says the woman is changing the status of the lifelong bachelor, who is expected to propose.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keanu Reeves, now 58, made his feature film debut at 22 in the 1986\u2019s\u00a0Youngblood<\/em>, a sports drama also starring Rob Lowe and the late Patrick Swayze.<\/p>\n

His breakthrough role came in 1989 with\u00a0Bill and Ted\u2019s Excellent Adventure<\/em>, a sci-fi comedy with outrageous catch phrases\u2013like \u201crighteous babe\u201d\u2013that still influence pop culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to be super famous, man,\u201d Reeves told New York\u2019s Newsday in 1991. \u201cThat would be awful.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the world had other plans for the handsome dark-haired actor.<\/p>\n

One of Hollywood\u2019s most sought-after actors, the Beirut-born Canadian then had massive success with appearances in several films like\u00a0Point Break<\/em>\u00a0(1991) and\u00a0Speed<\/em>\u00a0(1994), establishing himself as an action hero.<\/p>\n

But then, in 1991 his younger sister Kim\u2013a former actor and writer\u2013was diagnosed with leukemia, a life-threatening blood cancer, which shook the ground on which he stood.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was always there for me, you know. I will always be here for her,\u201d said the star, who at 23 became Kim\u2019s stay-at-home nurse \u2013 at the peak of his acting career.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy brother is my prince,\u201d\u00a0Kim tells People<\/a>. \u201cHe listens to every word, to every comma after every word, that you are saying.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kim, who\u2019s now 56 and has recovered, has built a private foundation to help others on their journey with cancer. Reeves is her silent partner in the mission.<\/p>\n

However, while his sister lives, other losses kept rolling in.<\/p>\n

Equally painful was the 1993 drug overdose of 23-year-old River Phoenix, his close friend, and co-star in the 1991 film\u00a0My Private Idaho<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Reeves said: \u201cI\u2019ve always loved you, River. River is my best friend, and I don\u2019t have many of them,\u201d said Reeves, years ago, of the young actor he called his \u201cbrother.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time of River\u2019s death, Sandra Bullock, who co-starred with Reeves in\u00a0Speed<\/em>, revealed that he was hiding a deep sadness.\u00a0She said<\/a>, \u201cI think Keanu has gone through a lot even though he doesn\u2019t let on. He hides a great pain.\u201d<\/p>\n

For a moment, which lasted from 1998 to 2000, Reeves was handed a brief reprieve.<\/p>\n

In 1998\u2013one year before he played the formidable warrior in the award-winning\u00a0Matrix<\/em>\u2013the brooding actor met a young woman, Jennifer Syme, the former assistant to\u00a0Twin Peaks<\/em>\u00a0director David Lynch.<\/p>\n

The pair\u2019s relationship, and then pregnancy, became fodder to the media and troublesome to the notoriously shy star.<\/p>\n

Swirling rumors proved to be true when on December 24, 1999, Syme gave birth only eight months into her pregnancy, and baby Ava was stillborn. The grief was too much for the couple to resolve, and their relationship ended, reconciling to become a close friendship a few weeks later.<\/p>\n

Only months after burying Ava, Syme, 29, was killed when her car sideswiped three parked cars, rolled over several times, and tossed her from the vehicle she was operating. According to reports, Syme, who died instantly on April 4, 2001, was not wearing a seatbelt and was under the influence of alcohol at the time.<\/p>\n

Trying to overcome his losses, he channeled his grief into his character of the unforgiving assassin in the\u00a0John Wick<\/em>\u00a0franchise.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was one of the foundations of the role. I love his grief,\u201d he said. \u201cI relate to that, and I don\u2019t think you ever work through it\u2026Grief and loss don\u2019t ever go away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still struggling, Reeves, an introvert, admitted he didn\u2019t want to live in sadness and consciously put effort into reclaiming his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the people you love are gone, you\u2019re alone\u2026I miss all the great things that will never be. It\u2019s not fair! It\u2019s absurd. I think, after loss, life requires an act of reclaiming. You have to reject being overwhelmed. Life has to go on.\u201d\u00a0The star continued<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m trying not to be alone so much, and man, it\u2019s a struggle. I want to get married. I want to have kids. That\u2019s at the top of the mountain. I\u2019ve got to climb the mountain first. I\u2019ll do it. Just give me some time.\u201d<\/p>\n

And recently, Reeves revealed he scaled that mountain and at the top, he found artist\u00a0Alexandra Grant<\/a>, 50. Though the couple tends to be very private about their relationship, Reeves couldn\u2019t help but gush over his beautiful love.<\/p>\n

While promoting\u00a0John Wick: Chapter 4<\/em>, released in late March 2023, the actor spoke with People magazine and shared some sweet moments he had with his new belle.<\/p>\n

When asked about his last moment of bliss,\u00a0Reeves replied<\/a>: \u201cA couple of days ago with my honey. We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great.\u201d He continued, \u201cIt was just really nice to be together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though it\u2019s unclear exactly when the two met, according to Reeve\u2019s friend, actor Jennifer Tilly, the two have been together much longer than fans realize.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember a couple of years ago, about a year and a half ago, [Grant] said, \u2018Keanu Reeves is my boyfriend,\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018Wait. What? What? What?\u2019\u201d said Tilly, 64.<\/p>\n

The relationship between Reeves and Grant relationship dates back to their debut book, \u201cOde to Happiness\u201d that was published in 2011. The book is an adult picture book with illustrations by Grant and text from the actor.<\/p>\n
