It’s one of the latest orders the 47th President of the United States has signed during his second term in office<\/h2>\n

Donald Trump has done what presidents of the United States have actively declined to challenge in the past – and it could greatly expand his power, experts say.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0second term in office has already been marked with a flurry of\u00a0executive orders<\/a>\u00a0being signed, including\u00a0renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America<\/a>, tax tariffs on Canada and China, and\u00a0one targeting transgender women in sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the father-of-five also signed orders to end Covid-19 vaccine mandates in schools,\u00a0eliminating the procurement of paper straws<\/a>\u00a0and creating a new White House\u00a0Faith<\/a>\u00a0Office to replace the \u2018White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives\u2019.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday (February 18), President Trump, 78, signed his latest executive order to bring notoriously independent agencies under the White House\u2019s control.<\/p>\n

How the executive order would affect independent agencies<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This now means all agencies – such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) – must submit draft regulations for the president to review instead of just giving them the green light themselves.<\/p>\n

They must also consult with\u00a0politicians<\/a>\u00a0on their \u2018priorities and strategic plans\u2019.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also stipulated that there will be \u2018no carve-out\u2019 for the former independent agencies. The only exemption to this rule is the Federal Reserve\u2019s monetary policy functions.<\/p>\n

The order\u00a0states<\/a>\u00a0that all executive branch officials and employees are now subject to Trump\u2019s supervision and that the Office of Management and Budget will ensure\u00a0tax dollars<\/a> are being \u2018spent wisely\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President and the Attorney General (subject to the President\u2019s supervision and control) will interpret the law for the executive branch, instead of having separate agencies adopt conflicting interpretations,\u201d the order continues.<\/p>\n

The FTC, the SEC, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) are the three former independent agencies named in the document.<\/p>\n

Trump claims they have all previously \u2018exercised enormous power over\u00a0the American<\/a>\u00a0people without Presidential oversight\u2019.<\/p>\n

The executive order alleges that this trio have issued rules and regulations that cost the country billions of dollars in the past and that they will \u2018no longer impose rules on the American people without oversight or accountability\u2019.<\/p>\n

According to the writ, executive power has \u2018no place\u2019 in the United States.<\/p>\n

\u201cExecutive power without responsibility has no place in our Republic. The United States was founded on the principle that the government should be accountable to the people,\u201d the order reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is why the Founders created a single President who is alone vested with \u2018the executive Power\u2019 and responsibility to \u2018take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to<\/a>\u00a0Politico, it will now be up to Russell Vought – acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – to \u2018establish performance standards and management objectives\u2019 for the heads of the independent agencies\u2019.<\/p>\n

It’s said that he will \u2018report periodically to the president\u2019 on the agencies\u2019 performance and efficiency while making \u2018necessary and appropriate\u2019 changes to the agencies\u2019 budgets.<\/p>\n

This will all be completed in line with the advancement of the President\u2019s \u2018policies and priorities\u2019.<\/p>\n

How the executive order could make Trump one of the most powerful presidents in history<\/strong><\/h2>\n

By \u2018reigning in\u2019 and intruding on the independent agencies, Trump has greatly expanded his power as the 47th President of the United States, says Politico.<\/p>\n

He is also breaking the mould, as former leaders like\u00a0Barack Obama<\/a>\u00a0have not only declined to challenge the independent nature of the FTC, the SEC and the FCC in the past but have actively tried to avoid the appearance of interference.<\/p>\n

The publication claims that some leaders of the independent agencies – who will now have to report to Trump – have lasted longer in office than actual presidents.<\/p>\n
