Kelly Clarkson has a way of turning any song into an unforgettable moment, and her performance of Garth Brooks\u2019 iconic ballad \u201cThe Dance\u201d \u2013 his \u201cfavorite song\u201d \u2013 left the country crooner visibly emotional.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Garth Brooks has delivered countless unforgettable performances throughout his career, but at the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors, it was his turn to be on the receiving end of a breathtaking tribute.<\/p>\n

The 63-year-old superstar singer \u2013 one of country music\u2019s most celebrated artists \u2013 was deeply moved as fellow music legends, like\u00a0Kelly Clarkson<\/a>, James Taylor, Jimmie Allen, and Gladys Knight, paid tribute to his legacy and extraordinary career.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s country music, rock, gospel, honky-tonk\u2026and then there\u2019s Garth Brooks,\u201d\u00a0said actor Bradley Cooper<\/a>, who introduced the tribute segment. \u201cGarth is a power hitter who swung for the fences and shattered the barriers between music genres, forever expanding the vocabulary of country music and changing American culture.\u201d<\/p>\n

His \u2018favorite song\u2019<\/h2>\n

And the first to take the stage was Clarkson, 42, with her emotional, powerhouse rendition of \u201cThe Dance,\u201d Brook\u2019s chart-topping 1990 ballad that he revealed is his \u201cfavorite song.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a song that you look forward to all night, like \u2018The Dance.\u2019 I could play it four or five times a night, and I\u2019d still be OK with it,\u201d Brooks said in a 1994\u00a0interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018The Dance\u2019 will be the greatest success as a song we will ever do. I\u2019ll go to my grave with \u2018The Dance.\u2019 It\u2019ll probably always be my favorite song,\u201d he added of the ballad that talks about love, loss, and the bittersweet beauty of life\u2019s fleeting moments.<\/p>\n

When the\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0winner performed the cover on stage, he likely loved the song a little bit more.<\/p>\n
