Val Kilmer shared his last post to Instagram just days before his passing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 65-year-old actor died yesterday, April 1, having experienced a string of health issues over the past decade. Kilmer\u2019s daughter, Mercedes\u00a0revealed to<\/a>\u00a0the New York Times that his cause of death was pneumonia.<\/p>\n

Readers may remember that the\u00a0Top Gun\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Batman Forever\u00a0<\/em>star was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014. As part of his treatment for the disease, Kilmer underwent chemotherapy and a tracheotomy that left him with permanent damage to his vocal cords.<\/p>\n

The actor, who made his on-screen debut in 1984\u2019s\u00a0Top Secret,\u00a0<\/em>discussed his diagnosis and recovery in his 2020 memoir,\u00a0I\u2019m Your Huckleberry,<\/em>\u00a0as well as the\u00a0Amazon Prime\u00a0documentary\u00a0Val.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI obviously am sounding much worse than I feel,\u201d Kilmer explained in the\u00a0documentary. \u201cI can\u2019t speak without plugging this hole (in his throat). You have to make the choice to breathe or to eat.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an obstacle that is very present with whoever sees me.\u201d<\/p>\n
