The gunshots that rang out in July last year changed everything. The world held its breath \u2014 and Donald Trump miraculously survived an assassination attempt.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now, he\u2019s breaking his silence. In an emotional interview with daughter-in-law Lara Trump, the president reveals one moment he\u2019ll never forget.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Grazed Trump\u2019s ear<\/h2>\n

It was a moment that stunned America \u2014 and nearly changed the course of history.<\/p>\n

On July 13, 2024, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks climbed to a rooftop near a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, taking aim at\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0as he addressed a crowd of supporters.<\/p>\n

In a matter of seconds, Crooks opened fire.<\/p>\n

One bullet grazed Trump\u2019s ear. Another claimed the life of a bystander \u2014 Corey Comperatore, a retired fire chief from Buffalo Township who had brought his family to the rally. Two more people were seriously injured before Crooks was taken down by a Secret Service sniper.<\/p>\n

Now, as the one-year anniversary of the attempt nears, Trump is opening up about what happened in a deeply personal interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, set to air on\u00a0Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got whacked\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cWell, it was unforgettable. I didn\u2019t know exactly what was going on. I got whacked. There\u2019s no question about that,\u201d Trump recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cFortunately, I got down quickly. People were screaming, and I got down quickly, fortunately, because I think they shot eight bullets.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201dOne got me, and one got another one, and one got another one,\u201d he said. \u201dAnd one killed Corey, the firefighter. Great guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Trump praised the courage of the agents who ultimately saved his life, he didn\u2019t shy away from criticizing the security failures that allowed the gunman to get into position.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey had a bad day\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cI have great confidence in these people. I know the people. And they\u2019re very talented, very capable,\u201d he said. \u201cBut they had a bad day. And I think they\u2019ll admit that. They had a rough day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should have had somebody in the building. They should have had communications with the local police, they weren\u2019t tied in, and they should have been tied in. So there were mistakes made.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of those agents, Myosoty Perez, was reportedly tasked with securing the surrounding area that day.<\/p>\n

Her attorney, Larry Berger, confirmed she had been suspended following the incident and was cooperating with investigators.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is now deciding what the next steps will be in this situation,\u201d Berger added, noting that she was not responsible for overall security.<\/p>\n

Six agents were ultimately suspended. The fallout was especially painful for the family of Corey Comperatore, whose widow later told reporters, \u201cOur blood is all over their hands.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got a little bit lucky\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Trump did, however, express deep gratitude to the sniper who stopped the gunman before more lives were lost. Referring to him as \u201cDavid,\u201d the 47th POTUS said he deserved major recognition for his swift and decisive action.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe went about his business. Less than just about four seconds, and that\u2019s when it all stopped and he got him perfectly from a very long distance,\u201d Trump said. \u201cSo we got a little bit lucky in that regard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just weeks after the shooting, Trump would survive a second assassination attempt \u2014 this time at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. A man was reportedly shot by Secret Service agents after pointing a gun through the course\u2019s perimeter.<\/p>\n
