The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee\u00a0(USOPC) has banned transgender athletes from competing in categories for women\u2019s sports.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The topic has been under a lot of contention over the last few months. Keep reading to know more about this behavior.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee\u00a0(USOPC) has now banned transgender athletes\u00a0from competing in women\u2019s\u00a0sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This Monday, the committee updated their Athlete Safety Policy on their website in a document dated from last month.<\/p>\n

While the update came from them, the USOPC did not publicize it, and it reads that\u00a0trans<\/a>\u00a0athletes will be banned from participating in women\u2019s sports. \u201cThe USOPC will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with oversight responsibilities, e.g., IOC, IPC, NGBs, to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act,\u201d\u00a0it reads.<\/a><\/p>\n

In February this year, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order 14201 which was titled, \u2018Keeping Men Out of Women\u2019s Sports.\u2019<\/p>\n

The policy reads that allowing trans athletes to compete in women\u2019s categories is \u201cdemeaning, unfair, and dangerous\u201d and denies cis-women and girls, \u201cthe equal opportunity to participate and excel in competitive sports.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt shall also be the policy of the United States to oppose male competitive participation in women\u2019s sports more broadly, as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity, and truth,\u201d the order went on.<\/p>\n

However, it is not clear that whether the policy will be enforced before the 2028 Summer\u00a0Olympics<\/a>\u00a0in Los Anegeles.<\/p>\n

So far, no athletes have won an Olympic medal while competing as openly trans in a women\u2019s sports category.<\/p>\n

USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland and USOPC President Gene Sykes confirmed the change to the policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a federally chartered organization, we have an obligation to comply with federal expectations,\u201d they wrote in a letter obtained by the\u00a0media<\/a>.<\/p>\n
