The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that emergency crews were called to her Los Angeles home just after 8 a.m., and one person was transported to a nearby hospital before being pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

Audio from the 911 dispatch, obtained by TMZ, revealed the\u00a0chilling moment<\/a>\u00a0first responders were sent out. In the clip, a dispatcher can be heard saying,\u00a0\u201cRescue 19, person down,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0before giving Keaton\u2019s address.<\/p>\n

At the time, the family asked for \u201cprivacy in this moment of great sadness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, they\u2019re expressing deep gratitude to the fans and friends who have reached out in the wake of her loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.\u201d<\/p>\n

A painful shock<\/h2>\n

According to a close friend who spoke to People, Keaton\u2019s decline came as a painful shock.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her. It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit,\u201d the friend said.<\/p>\n

Oscar-winning songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, one of Keaton\u2019s longtime friends and collaborators, recalled how frail the actress appeared in their last meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin,\u201d Sager said. \u201cShe had lost so much weight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sager explained that Keaton had recently relocated to Palm Springs after wildfires severely damaged her California home.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very sad to hear of Diane\u2019s passing. I was very fond of her, and the news of her leaving us has taken me totally by surprise. I was not expecting her to leave us. She will be missed. May she rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leonardo DiCaprio, who played her nephew in\u00a0Marvin\u2019s Room<\/em>, honored her with a touching Instagram post:<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of a kind. Brilliant, funny, and unapologetically herself. She will be deeply missed.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an\u00a0emotional essay<\/a>\u00a0published by The Free Press Sunday, Woody Allen described Keaton as a one-of-a-kind individual.<\/p>\n
