She couldn\u2019t walk, was morbidly obese, and at one point weighed over 800 pounds.<\/strong>\u00a0Marla\u2019s life was at risk if she didn\u2019t get help, and she eventually landed her spot on the show. Today, she\u2019s lost more than 500 pounds \u2013 and the transformation is just amazing!<\/strong><\/p>\n

A healthy diet can be a hard thing to maintain. If you have a family, a partner or many interests, it can be time-consuming to cook healthy food, and sometimes pretty expensive as well.<\/p>\n

Fast food is definitely a trap. Sure, it can be good now and then, but in the long run it\u2019s bad for your health if you eat too much of it. That\u2019s why we\u2019re always told we should work out to improve our minds, bodies and souls!<\/p>\n

But as inspiring as these physically fit people can be, so too are people like Marla McCants.<\/p>\n

A number of years ago, she appeared on\u00a0My 600-lb Life,<\/em>\u00a0weighing over 800 pounds. Due to her unhealthy lifestyle, she was thought to be very close to dying.<\/p>\n

However, with great dedication and Dr. Now\u2019s help, Marla turned her life around. These days, she looks amazing!<\/p>\n

So how did she do it? Here\u2019s all you need to know about Marla McCant\u2019s incredible journey!<\/p>\n

Even after someone makes it onto the show, there\u2019s plenty of work yet to be done. When Marla McCants appeared on\u00a0My 600-Lb Life<\/em>, Dr. Younan. Nowzaradan, also known as \u201cDr Now\u201d, wasn\u2019t convinced that he could help her at all.<\/p>\n

Marla McCants \u2013 weight loss journey<\/h2>\n

In fact, Dr. Now has actually walked away from several patients over the years because he felt that he could no longer help them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been a few patients I felt I could no longer help,\u201d he told People.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will always be available if they need me. If they won\u2019t stick to the program, at some point, I can longer help them and they are taking resources from someone else who needs it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marla McCants was so morbidly obese that she couldn\u2019t even get up to walk by herself. She was eating food in bed, even frying food in a small fryer that she always had with her.<\/p>\n

Marla was addicted. Addictions, as we know, are never easy to break.<\/p>\n

Marla McCants became one of Dr Now\u2019s most difficult patients. She decided to move to Houston, Texas, where he was stationed, with her daughter, and underwent a gastric bypass surgery to help her in her weight loss journey.<\/p>\n

Didn\u2019t want to cooperate<\/h2>\n

However, things would get complicated. She stayed at the hospital for a while, until Dr Now decided that enough was enough.<\/p>\n

It appeared that she didn\u2019t want to cooperate and refused to try to stand up as part of her recovery. Eventually, she was discharged.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Houstonia Magazine, Dr. Nowzaradan said he didn\u2019t make any money performing the surgeries, instead focusing on giving people a second chance at life.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking at the moral obligation that we\u2019ve got, you see somebody who has no life who could have a life,\u201d he\u00a0said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t need to be rich. We do make a living, but we don\u2019t need to worry about making a living out of every patient we see.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, his motivation is truly to help people live healthy, productive lives, rather than eat their lives away.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never let the camera change my behavior toward any patient,\u201d Dr Nowzaradan explained. \u201cI do exactly the same thing if the camera is there or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0People<\/a>, Dr. Now said that there have been many cases where patients haven\u2019t been able to keep their weight down even after undergoing gastric bypass surgery.<\/p>\n

Dr. Now: \u2018Necessary with tough love\u2019<\/h2>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a daily challenge to work with some patients that can be self-destructive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy job is not to get aggravated, but to find a way to motivate them to work hard to get to their goals. There are times where I think it\u2019s necessary for some tough love and I have to be stern with them, so I show some of my concern and frustration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Nowzaradan added, \u201cEven during those times, my job is to find a way to work with them to get their weight to a healthy place. They are the patient because they need help and it\u2019s my job to help them no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marla McCants\u2019 journey could have ended the moment she was discharged. It was her daughter, Sierra, who decided that this was not going to be the end. She gave Dr. Now another call, begging him to help.<\/p>\n

Stood up for the first time in years<\/h2>\n

In the follow-up program, McCants was seen sitting in her bed at home, still relying on her daughter Sierra for practically everything. By this point, though, she had lost an impressive amount of weight and weighed in at 534 pounds.<\/p>\n

At that point, her next big operation was a skin removal surgery. Yet she still hadn\u2019t lost enough to go through with it.<\/p>\n

One problem was that Marla was cheating on her diet and refusing to get up and walk. She still craved the fried chicken she used to make from her bed.<\/p>\n

Though it had been almost a year since her bypass surgery when the follow-up episode aired, Marla couldn\u2019t stand up.<\/p>\n

\u201cA couple of months ago, I was kind of depressed because things weren\u2019t going as I thought they would go, but it is getting better,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m getting stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marla\u2019s biggest goal was to get up and walk, then to remove excess skin.<\/p>\n

Marla McCants \u2013 incredible transformation<\/h2>\n

\u201cI came to Texas so I can get my life back and be here for my grandkids, but I still don\u2019t feel like I am able to be in their lives like I should. So I can\u2019t wait to get that surgery done,\u201d she said in the follow-up episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still have cravings, miss fried chicken,\u201d she added. \u201cI was trying to find a way that I can eat that. I tried using olive oil, but it doesn\u2019t taste the same, and just eating meat is a little frustrating.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u201dAll I can say is that I am human. You don\u2019t have to starve yourself; you just have to make better choices.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sierra had helped her mom with everything over the years. Then, one year after her mother\u2019s gastric bypass surgery, she felt that she wanted to move on with her life and not be a caretaker for Marla.<\/p>\n

Marla, of course, didn\u2019t want her daughter acting as her caretaker either.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel frustrated because if she can just get up and walk, that would be a major step for me,\u201d Sierra said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know right then and there\u2014boom\u2014I could just take off with my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA couple of months ago, I would have said it was frustrating sitting in this bed watching people come and go, but use that as fuel now because soon I will be out there,\u201d Marla explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am going to the doctor\u2019s soon, and I am hoping he will give me the go-ahead to get skin surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Claims of faking the production<\/h2>\n

Even though it seemed like Marla McCants was a hopeless case, there\u2019s more to her than meets the eye.<\/p>\n

In a YouTube interview with Rickey Smiley, she claimed that the production company was actually faking things and used unethical behavior in order to make the program more dramatic than it actually was.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike, the scene where I was in the hospital. And I wouldn\u2019t get up. You all don\u2019t know why I didn\u2019t get it up. First of all, they put it out there a year ahead, when actually it was only one month after I had the gastric bypass,\u201d Marla explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had lost seventy pounds the first month. I had my surgery February 13th of 2015; that episode aired March of 2015. So I had just lost seventy pounds. I was malnourished, I was in the hospital, and he wanted me to get up? Seriously? I\u2019m bleeding on the bed and you want me to get up?\u201d<\/p>\n

So how is Marla McCants doing today? Well, safe to say that she turned her whole life around \u2013 and she looks absolutely amazing!<\/p>\n

This is Marla McCants today<\/h2>\n

In 2019, Marla appeared on the\u00a0Sister Circle<\/a>, where she revealed her true new self. In fact, she\u2019s lost a staggering 580 pounds. Yes, you read that right!<\/p>\n

\u201cI never want to go back to that place,\u201d McCants said on the show. \u201cThe way I was treated. I never want to go back there. It\u2019s lonely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though Marla has won the biggest fight of her life, many people are still fighting. According to Marla, it\u2019s important not to judge those people, as she knows how it feels to be like them.<\/p>\n

\u201dI firstly want to get out there that food is an addiction. I\u2019m always going to have that mindset. I struggled with it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201dThe way I was treated\u2026you never want to go back there.\u00a0 You should never judge a book by it\u2019s cover. Everybody has a story, everybody has roots that they have to get to.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor those people [who think it\u2019s gross with people on the show], they are just ignorant,\u201d she added. \u201dYou can overcome your struggles and fears, you can do what I did.\u201d<\/p>\n
