However, it was almost a century before scientists returned to the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dArchaeologists have been looking for this mosaic since at least 1922,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/articles\/vineyard-mosaic-floor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">says<\/a>\u00a0Alberto Manicardi, head of operations for the dig near the town of Negrar.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-e7f2368fae6985a0be5c62790736e86b\" class=\"newsner-e7f2368fae6985a0be5c62790736e86b newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-750984166\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe knew it was there but were not able to exactly locate it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Camilla Madinelli of the local newspaper\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.larena.it\/territori\/valpolicella\/negrar\/scoperto-a-negrar-il-pavimento-di-una-villa-romana-1.8097306\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">L\u2019Arena<\/a><\/em>, a team from the Superintendent of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Verona had begun digging in the area before the COVID-19 pandemic originally hit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2022\/12\/100541692_1505771136256090_1061047571415302144_n.jpg\" alt=\"Denna bild har ett alt-attribut som \u00e4r tomt. These mosaics were often used for floor and wall decoration in the Ancient Roman world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe a cultural site of this value deserves attention and should be enhanced,\u201d Negrar di Valpolicella Mayor Roberto Grison tells\u00a0<em>L\u2019Arena<\/em>, as translated by the\u00a0<em>Guardian<\/em>. \u201cFor this reason, together with the superintendent and those in charge of agricultural funds, we will find a way to make this treasure enjoyable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mosaic has a series of twisted shapes known as \u201cSolomon\u2019s knots,\u201d according to Atlas Obscura.
