Police revealed some heartbreaking news about a\u00a0teenager<\/a>\u00a0who passed away quite unexpectedly. The\u00a0death<\/a>\u00a0happened during the Junior Reserve Officers\u2019 Training Corps (JROTC) 5K at Everglades High School in Miramar, Florida.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Arrojo, principal of Western High School, released a statement that said<\/a>, \u201cI am saddened to share tragic news impacting our Wildcat community. One of our JROTC students passed away this morning after being transported to the hospital. I want to offer my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, teachers, and classmates as they mourn this great loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI ask our Wildcat community to rally around the family in prayer and support during this time of deep sorrow,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

While the young boy\u2019s name was not been officially released,\u00a0a GoFundMe page<\/a>\u00a0has been set up for a student identified as Knox MacEwen.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn November 4th, 2023, the MacEwen family suddenly and tragically lost their beloved 14-year-old son, Knox,\u201d the description of the GoFundMe page read. \u201cHe was a revered member of his local community \u2013 a JROTC student, a volunteer with the kids ministry at his home church; and he was a beloved brother, son, grandson, nephew and friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

The GoFundMe page also mentioned that Knox\u2019s mother had suffered from cancer last year.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday morning, the account had already raised $67,000, which was well over the original goal of $30,000.<\/p>\n

Sudden\u00a0cardiac arrest<\/a>\u00a0is quite rare in young people. Only about 200 adolescents pass away from the condition each year in the United States,\u00a0according to statistics on the Mayo Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>, people who experience cardiac arrest might display one or more of the symptoms, such as collapsing, fainting or passing out, struggling to breathe, becoming unresponsive, or having no pulse.<\/p>\n

In such a situation, it is pertinent to notify emergency services and get medical attention for the person right away.<\/p>\n
