After failed attempts at having babies when she was with\u00a0Tom Cruise<\/a>, Nicole Kidman celebrated the 17th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of her marriage to Keith Urban, the man who gave her the greatest gift; the gift of becoming a mother to their two children.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nicole Kidman\u2019s high-profile divorce from\u00a0Tom Cruise<\/a>\u00a0played out publicly on an international screen but still, she refuses to share the explicit details of the events leading up to the split.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning actor and the star of\u00a0Mission Impossible<\/em>\u00a0met on the set of\u00a0Days of Thunder<\/em>, while Cruise was still married to actor Mimi Rogers, whom he divorced in 1990.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood power couple of Kidman and Cruise married the same year. Kidman, who was 23 at the time they wed\u2013admits that she was fully consumed by her love for the action star.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe basically swept me off my feet. \u2026 And as happens when you fall in love, my whole plan in terms of what I wanted for my life\u2013I was like, \u2018Forget it. This is it,\u2019\u201d\u00a0Kidman shared<\/a>\u00a0of her relationship with the\u00a0Top Gun<\/em>\u00a0star. \u201cI was consumed by it, willingly. And I was desperate to have a baby with him. I didn\u2019t care if we were married.\u201d<\/p>\n

While together, the Hawaiian-born Aussie and Cruise appeared in a handful of films together, like\u00a0Eyes Wide Shut<\/em>\u00a0(1999),\u00a0Far and Away<\/em>\u00a0(1992) and\u00a0Malice<\/em>\u00a0(1993), the latter films telling the story of a young couple wanting to have children.<\/p>\n

Off-screen, the seemingly happily married couple were also trying to have children, something Kidman\u2013who had two failed pregnancies with Cruise\u2013revealed she wanted more than a career.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies\u2026And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that\u2019s when it came that we would adopt Bella,\u201d she says in an interview with\u00a0Vanity Fair<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s a complicated background to that, given that I never speak much about many things. One day maybe that story will be told. So that\u2019s the way it came up, and we adopted Bella when I was 25.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two years after they had Bella (born 1992),\u00a0Kidman<\/a>\u00a0and Cruise, a devout Scientologist, adopted Connor (1995).<\/p>\n

In December 2000, the star of\u00a0To Die For<\/em>\u00a0celebrated her 10th<\/sup>\u00a0wedding anniversary with her Maverick husband, along with a group of friends.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought our life together was perfect,\u201d\u00a0she said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But two months later, her world imploded when Cruise announced he was splitting without explanation other than a brief, \u201cNic knows why.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kidman said her agents warned that with Cruise, her career was destined for destruction. \u201cOnce you become Mrs. Tom Cruise, you do know your career is going to die. You\u2019re going to absolutely shoot yourself in the foot,\u201d\u00a0she recalled\u00a0<\/a>being told.<\/p>\n

They were right, and divorcing Cruise turned out to be the best thing she could have done.<\/p>\n

The star of the\u00a0Golden Compass<\/em>\u00a0went on to earn her first Oscar nod for her performance in\u00a0Moulin Rouge<\/em>\u00a0(2001) and then win her first Academy Award for 2002\u2019s\u00a0The Hours<\/em>.<\/p>\n

And then, in 2005, the beautiful star found her happily ever with one of country music\u2019s hottest stars,\u00a0Keith Urban<\/a>, at G\u2019Day LA, an event honoring Australians living in America.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were very, very quiet about it, and we managed to get through a long period of time without people knowing about us\u2013which is pretty much our style still,\u201d\u00a0Kidman said<\/a>\u00a0about the early days of her and Urban.<\/p>\n
