{"id":500,"date":"2023-07-08T10:04:38","date_gmt":"2023-07-08T10:04:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/used82.com\/?p=500"},"modified":"2023-07-08T10:04:38","modified_gmt":"2023-07-08T10:04:38","slug":"electric-lawnmowers-debut-turns-to-disaster-blazing-inferno","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/used82.com\/?p=500","title":{"rendered":"Electric Lawnmower\u2019s Debut Turns To Disaster, Blazing Inferno"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In yet another example of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theamericantribune.com\/ev-fail-redux-journo-gets-sticker-shock-from-massive-cost-of-replacement-battery-for-f-150-lightning-video\/\">an EV<\/a>\u00a0not doing quite what it\u2019s supposed to when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theamericantribune.com\/lol-man-plugs-80k-ev-truck-in-then-finds-out-it-will-take-over-4-days-to-charge\/\">debuted<\/a>, the DeWalt electric mower scheduled to be released in 2023 burst into flames and turned into a roaring, blazing inferno at the Equip Exposition Outdoor Demo Yard.<\/p>\n<p>That exposition\u2019s Facebook account posted about the incident,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/equipexposition\/posts\/pfbid0kG96LwhZLjMbUTTxTPFE2HQzi2QQkqZ5yJj2ntnuVozHT75Na6pEozSYNDanx69dl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Today, in the Equip Exposition Outdoor Demo Yard, a mower caught on fire. There were no injuries. The Lawn &amp; Landscape blog reported that the prototype was part of DeWalt\u2019s battery-powered Ascent Series, which wasn\u2019t expected to be made available to the public until fall 2023.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>DeWalt, replying to both Snopes and the Lawn &amp; Landscape blog when asked about the inferno incident with the electric mower, said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are grateful that no one was injured. We are working quickly to determine the cause of the issue with this single pre-production prototype unit and will provide further information when available.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Combustion-powered vehicles can catch on fire too, of course. Gas and diesel are, well, combustible. The problem with most\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theamericantribune.com\/lol-new-ev-totally-bombs-attempt-to-drive-at-highway-speeds-ends-in-miserable-failure-less-than-80-miles-later\/\">electric, battery-powered vehicles<\/a>, whether a mower or a top-of-the-line Tesla, is the lithium battery, if it does ignite, is near impossible to put out because of the heat at which lithium-ion batteries burn if ignited.<\/p>\n<p>That became a problem in Florida following Hurricane Ian. Some of the EVs caught in Hurricane Ian\u2019s path were flooded and, as a result, their batteries corroded. It happened to a man\u2019s EV Jaguar as well, almost causing a catastrophic house fire. Speaking about that fire, the Jaguar owner\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theamericantribune.com\/video-after-making-a-loud-pop-mans-electric-jaguar-blows-up-in-the-middle-of-the-street\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>:\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>On June 16, I plugged the car in before going to bed. In the morning of June 17, I woke up and unplugged the car. Later that morning, I set out to run some errands. I drove about 12 miles that morning before returning back home and parking the car back in the garage, leaving the garage door open.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>As I was doing things at home, I heard pops coming from the garage. I decided to go see where the\u00a0sounds were coming from, and upon\u00a0walking into the garage,\u00a0I faced a thick wall of smoke. My thought immediately was, \u2018When there is smoke there is fire,\u2019 and I need to get the car out of the house garage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I went back to the house to get my phone and also noticed that all the smoke in the garage now had filled my entire house because the A\/C unit is right next to the garage door. While I was trying to ventilate my house from the smoke I called Jaguar roadside assistance to have them come get the car.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When I ended the conversation with them there were more pops, but this time it was followed by fire from under the car. I then called 911 to come help with the situation.
