It was a message for parents, so Juliana took the time to read it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-16\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-9\"><\/div>\n<p>Although the sign was undoubtedly blunt, making demands of parents who were arriving to pick up their children, the mom said she \u201ctotally agreed\u201d with the message, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2017\/02\/02\/day-cares-get-off-your-phone-sign\/\">NY Post<\/a>\u00a0reported. Juliana snapped a photo of the sign and posted it on Facebook. Little did she know, she was about to go viral as the sign\u2019s controversial message sparked heavy debate with plenty of comments applauding in agreement and many others openly disagreeing, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/lifestyle\/daycare-sign-telling-parents-off-001133612.html\">Yahoo! GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!\u201d the sign read. \u201cYour child is happy to see you. Are you happy to see your child?? We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work and the parent is on the phone. We have heard a child say \u2018MOMMY\u2026MOMMY\u2026MOMMY\u2019 and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their child. It is appalling.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Although Juliana happened to have her phone in her hand at the time, she said she usually doesn\u2019t bring it into the daycare for the exact reasons mentioned on the sign.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAt first, I was mostly surprised, it\u2019s surprising for a business to put something that bold to their customers on the door. I knew exactly what they were talking about, because I\u2019ve seen the parents that they\u2019re talking about,\u201d Juliana\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtae.com\/article\/get-off-your-phone-texas-daycare-center-sign-goes-viral\/8668955#\">explained<\/a>. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t want to criticize anyone, because I don\u2019t know any of those parents\u2019 situations, but I think it\u2019s something we all do. Maybe not in that specific situation, like at the daycare, but maybe at the dinner table or the car, definitely I do it. My husband and I talked about it, we both agreed, we all do it. (Photo Credit:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ABCNews\/photos\/a.10150095914943812\/10155345862628812\/?type=3&amp;ref=embed_post\">Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>So, it was in support of the sign that Juliana snapped the photo and posted it to social media, saying it served as a useful reminder to all parents about a growing problem that stretches far beyond the daycare doors.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-16\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-11\"><\/div>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI thought it was awesome,\u201d Juliana admitted. \u201cI thought it was funny and it definitely made me (think),\u201d she continued. \u201cI think (the message) definitely resonates with people,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not just at the daycare, it\u2019s anywhere.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, not every agreed with the sign\u2019s sentiments. Some had an issue with the message itself, alleging that the daycare was making assumptions while others had a problem with how the message was communicated. And, there were also those who felt it was simply none of the daycare\u2019s business.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cUnreal. For every 10 people they think are ignoring their children, about 1 of them could have a truly legitimate reason,\u201d one Facebook user wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStay in your own lane and mind your\u2026business,\u201d posted another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSorry, I\u2019d remove my child from that school,\u201d Janise Warren wrote. \u201cThey are right, of course, but that sign is not how you talk to another person, especially one paying your salary. I\u2019m sure it\u2019s true \u2026 but these are the people I would have entrusted to help teach my kids respect and they were just as disrespectful with that sign as the parents were with the phone. Two wrongs don\u2019t make a right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe daycare seems to have the right intentions. After all, as a parent, you should absolutely pay attention to your child and the wonderful work they\u2019re doing! And yes, many of us are on our phones too much, neglecting the present,\u201d Gabriela Herstik wrote for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/lifestyle\/daycare-sign-telling-parents-off-001133612.html\">Yahoo! News<\/a>. \u201cBut sometimes a last-minute email, an emergency phone call, or an urgent text message happens. And that\u2019s just life in the 21st century! We applaud the intention behind this sign, but we cannot condone the means in which it was communicated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people have to work on their phones. I have my personal cell and a work cell,\u201d Kirstin Ramsey wrote. \u201cJust because I clock out of the office doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m finished with my work day. Instead, it seems to be a consistent habit for some parents, and it\u2019s one she hopes they will be encouraged to evaluate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-16\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-11\"><\/div>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe real issue is that it\u2019s a consistent thing with some people, it happens every day. I would like to say that you should definitely evaluate why you\u2019re on the phone constantly, including myself,\u201d she explained.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Other social media users agreed with Juliana and the daycare\u2019s sign with some even suggesting that it should be \u201cposted everywhere,\u201d especially since experts say that, when cell phones cause parents to ignore or miss the needs of their children, it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellmind.com\/parental-phubbing-makes-kids-feel-ignored-5441938#:~:text=Almost%2070%25%20of%20parents%20say%20they%20feel%20distracted%20by%20their,it's%20how%20parents%20use%20them.\">may increase depression<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"A Texas daycare is scolding parents to get off their phones | Your Morning\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CceCbzXJols?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-ratio=\"0.5625\" data-width=\"640\" data-height=\"360\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Although the sign received plenty of backlash, the daycare kept it posted on the door, according to Juliana. However, they did make an addition. The word \u201cplease\u201d was added with a smile emoji,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/cell-phone-sign-big-talkers-trending\/1733590\/\">ABC 6<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-16\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\"><\/div>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThey\u2019re not backing down, which is pretty crazy,\u201d Juliana said. \u201cWe love this daycare. It\u2019s a great place \u2013 really loving,\u201d she said. \u201cThey obviously care for the kids.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It would seem that the sign proved effective, according to Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz, who said that, although she had not heard from other\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/taphaps.com\/julie-marburger-teacher-naughty-23b\/\">parents<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/taphaps.com\/francesca-easdon-lunchbox\/\">daycare<\/a>, she hadn\u2019t seen anyone on their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/taphaps.com\/cindy-redmond-phone-table-23b\/\">phones<\/a>\u00a0since the sign went up. It\u2019s almost as if the naysayers know the daycare had a point and a legitimate reason to demand that parents\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/taphaps.com\/retired-teacher-lisa-roberson\/\">do better<\/a>. While our phones may need our attention occasionally, our children undeniably need our undivided attention at times. In fact, their mental health depends on it, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellmind.com\/parental-phubbing-makes-kids-feel-ignored-5441938#:~:text=Almost%2070%25%20of%20parents%20say%20they%20feel%20distracted%20by%20their,it's%20how%20parents%20use%20them.\">Very Well Mind<\/a>, and that\u2019s why we will share this story time and again.
