Some unfortunate tourists left stranded in the Nevada desert after being led astray by Google Maps which took them on an apparent ‘shortcut’.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Last weekend, a group of\u00a0Los Angeles<\/a>\u00a0natives were travelling back from Las Vegas,\u00a0Nevada<\/a>\u00a0after enjoying the not so successful\u00a0Las Vegas Grand Prix<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

TikToker<\/a>\u00a0Shelby Easler, who was a part of the\u00a0Californian<\/a> party, took to the platform earlier this week to post about her less-than-successful journey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Ahead of their travel back to the West Coast on Sunday (19 November), they replied on\u00a0Google Maps<\/a>\u00a0to get them seamlessly from A to B.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

However, the navigation system supposedly advised the group to take a quicker off-road route instead of travelling down Interstate 15, which was experiencing major dust storm delays.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Discussing the incident over\u00a0Instagram<\/a>, Easler told\u00a0SFGATE<\/a>: \u201cWe ironically thought it would be a safer option, and it did say it would be 50 minutes faster.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIt was our first time driving to\/from Vegas, so we didn’t know that you can really only take the I-15 back and forth.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the content creator\u2019s now-viral TikTok post, Easler and her troop were seen driving on an off-road trail in the desert.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The clip also shows another vehicle up front, which presumably has also followed the route allegedly recommended by\u00a0Google<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It\u2019s said that the group called emergency services due to feeling \u2018trapped\u2019, but were reportedly told that personnel were preoccupied with the ongoing dust storm.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In another TikTok update, Easler revealed that the alternative route suggested to her family was almost \u2018two hours out of the way\u2019 and it eventually led them to a gravel road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe path was like dug into the ground, so we couldn\u2019t really turn around. There were cars in front of us, cars behind us so we kind of got pinned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAnd because our navigation said we were going three miles, making a left we assumed we were going to hit a road eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She also claimed that her\u00a0car<\/a> was \u2018sideways\u2019 while travelling on the off-road route and that they were forced to drive over \u2018bushes and rocks\u2019 before the vehicle broke down.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Easler claims that the car was so \u2018scratched up\u2019 that the family ended up flying out to LA as it couldn\u2019t get them home. She also said that the vehicle in question is \u2018still in Vegas\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She added to SFGATE: \u201cIn the future, I\u2019ll stick to the road I know and double-check somewhere else if the route seems sketchy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In response to the allegations, Google told The New York Post: \u201cDuring unpredictable conditions, we work as quickly as possible to update routing based on information from local authorities and sudden changes to driving patterns.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re investigating the issue that happened over the weekend, and can confirm that we\u2019re routing drivers through Interstate 15 since it\u2019s been reopened.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
