And\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wonderopolis.org\/wonder\/why-is-it-called-an-eggplant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">as the story goes<\/a>, it was European farmers in the 1700\u2019s who gave the fruit their name.
