We just went around a curve, lost traction of the vehicle and collided head on with another vehicle\u2026it was a pretty high impact accident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The baby had a broken leg, Tiffany\u2019s head \u201chad to be stapled back together,\u201d and Joe suffered a broken back.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ryland got the worst of it.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote id=\"v75694741979994430\" class=\"tiktok-embed\" cite=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@tiff.lashae\/video\/7308969670663572779\" data-video-id=\"7308969670663572779\" data-embed-from=\"oembed\"><p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/embed\/v2\/7308969670663572779?lang=en-US&amp;referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com%2Fnews%2Fkentucky-boy-suffers-major-brain-damage-after-head-on-collision%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR2zFsQBQvb5UzxleYqsIqgz8OqqvV66x7XslZLu-cCzrvFGC7htS9d3evo&amp;embedFrom=oembed\" name=\"__tt_embed__v75694741979994430\" sandbox=\"allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox allow-scripts allow-top-navigation allow-same-origin\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>When emergency officials arrived at the scene, the little boy, who wasn\u2019t breathing, sustained multiple brain injuries and a huge gash above his eye, which Tiffany says was caused from the impact of the phone hitting his fragile little head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Ryland has] tearing all over the whole brain, like the whole nervous system is torn. The big cut over his eye is from my husband\u2019s cell phone he was holding\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She adds, \u201cHe sustained multiple skull fractures face fractures from that phone. That was the only answer for it. It was the phone because he didn\u2019t bust his head. Nothing like that like, he didn\u2019t hit [any] windows, nothing. The brain injuries we cannot say where that came from, I guess just maybe the severe the violent blow of the head from the phone or just shaking of your head.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe id=\"instagram-embed-1\" class=\"instagram-media instagram-media-rendered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C0esTTNPfiJ\/embed\/captioned\/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=640&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com&amp;rp=%2Fnews%2Fkentucky-boy-suffers-major-brain-damage-after-head-on-collision%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR2zFsQBQvb5UzxleYqsIqgz8OqqvV66x7XslZLu-cCzrvFGC7htS9d3evo#%7B%22ci%22%3A1%2C%22os%22%3A1059.2999999523163%7D\" height=\"1406\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-instgrm-payload-id=\"instagram-media-payload-1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div id=\"newsner-2142355660\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>Tiffany \u2013 also mom to baby Patience, who died less than one month after she was born in April 2021 and Ryder, who has cerebral palsy \u2013 said in his earlier days of recovery, \u201cwe\u2019re not sure that [Ryland] understood who me and his dad were.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sharing Ryland\u2019s journey of recovery online, Tiffany received millions of messages with love and prayers.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the life that\u2019s still visible in his oftentimes vacant eyes, one netizen writes, \u201cThose eyes are not empty\u2026you can see that he understands..the brain is miraculous..I see so much hope.\u201d A second shares, \u201ccan see everything in those beautiful baby eyes. He was in the backseat buckled in his booster car seat, my nine-month-old was in his rear facing car seat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Begging users to stop spreading hate and doubting Ryland\u2019s position in the car, the mom said the worst thing she\u2019s had to overcome were the frequent calls, urging the family to come to his room because doctors \u201cdidn\u2019t think he would make it through the night.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-slow-recovery\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Slow recovery<\/h2>\n<p>After spending one month at Kentucky Children\u2019s Hospital, where he celebrated his 5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0birthday on the same day he started breathing without support, Ryland was transferred to Cincinnati\u2019s Children\u2019s Hospital for rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>Tiffany shares that his eyes are starting to connect with his surroundings and he \u201chas to itch that healing abrasion above his eye\u2026 that\u2019s purposeful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And he also learned how to smile again.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe id=\"instagram-embed-3\" class=\"instagram-media instagram-media-rendered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C3Joim7Ntvq\/embed\/captioned\/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=640&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com&amp;rp=%2Fnews%2Fkentucky-boy-suffers-major-brain-damage-after-head-on-collision%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR2zFsQBQvb5UzxleYqsIqgz8OqqvV66x7XslZLu-cCzrvFGC7htS9d3evo#%7B%22ci%22%3A3%2C%22os%22%3A5146.599999904633%7D\" height=\"1123\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-instgrm-payload-id=\"instagram-media-payload-3\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s starting to really have good head control for [tree to five] mins at a time.
