After recently moving into a 100-year-old\u00a0home<\/a>, this Redditor noticed a rather strange and unique featured of one of the rooms.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Totally baffled, he took to\u00a0Reddit<\/a>\u00a0to ask whether anyone on the internet had any clue about what it was.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, there were many different answers. Do you have any clue what it could be? Keep reading to find out if you\u2019re correct!<\/strong><\/p>\n

This new homeowner \u2013 who goes by the handle oldsofthands \u2013 began his\u00a0post<\/a>\u00a0on Reddit\u2019s \u2018What Is This Thing?<\/a>\u2018 thread by writing: \u201cHouse built in 1916 \u2013 on the other side of this wall is what used to be a \u201csewing room\u201d, according to my landlord.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oldsofthands continued by saying that the house, which has eight bedrooms, was definitely decorated well for the time period it was built in. \u201cI can enter the sewing room on the other side, and I\u2019ve looked all around on the floor, where I believe the door would open up to\u2026 But can\u2019t find the backside of the tiny door! It\u2019s painted over, and feels very secure \u2013 almost locked,\u201d the user added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis house has a complex laundry chute system but this seems way too small to be a part of it. This room clearly was built as a bedroom, as there is a bathroom and a closet, neither of which are near this bizarre little architectural feature,\u201d the post concluded.<\/p>\n

Oldsofthands noted that the clog pictured next to the door was a women\u2019s US size 9 for scale.<\/p>\n

Naturally, many people in the comments section underneath the post each had their own thoughts.<\/p>\n

One person suggested the original poster cut through the door to see if anything was behind it, writing: \u201cGet yourself a razor blade and carefully cut the paint and see if you can\u2019t get the door free I wonder if it\u2019s like a hole to the basement so you could drop stuff in?\u201d<\/p>\n

Someone else wrote that it could be pet-related, adding: \u201cA cat door? Last time I was house hunting, one of the houses had cat doors to all interior rooms.\u201d<\/p>\n

A further user said that the door could have been used to conceal a gas valve, commenting: \u201cHouse could have has gas lighting in its early years. That could have been use to hide a valve to shut the gas off to a room or section of the home. The lights themselves would have had little valves on them.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the end, one person had the correct response, chiming in with: \u201cMy 1924 home has a somewhat larger door (maybe twice the size of the one in the photo) outside the bathroom \u2018looking in\u2019 if you will. It provides access to what would have been the original bathtub plumbing but, due to remodeling over the years, now just looks into the area at the end of the tub without giving access to anything that actually requires access.\u201d<\/p>\n
