According to\u00a0Susana\u00a0<\/a>Martinez-Conde, who is director of the laboratory of visual neuroscience at\u00a0Barrow Neurological Institute<\/a>\u00a0in Phoenix, Ariz: \u201cThey\u2019re important tools in visual research to help us understand how visual processing works in the normal brain and also in the diseased brain.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0That means, not only are they a fun way to keep yourself busy, but they are great for your mind! This picture of a frog, for example, also happens to be a picture of something entirely different![1<\/a>]<\/p>\n

Look at this picture of a frog<\/h2>\n

Yes, it\u2019s a picture of a frog. But, is there more to it than first meets the eye? Look closely! Don\u2019t give up too easily; all it takes is a little time and patience to see that this picture of a frog is another animal entirely! Technically, this image is not actually an optical illusion. That\u2019s because it has more to do with how your brain works and perceives the image rather than the optics in your actual eye. \u00a0Mark Changizi, a neurobiologist and assistant professor of cognitive science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, explains that\u00a0\u201cThe brain is always constructing things, which is helping you survive. Some of these constructions can be fiction.\u201d<\/em>[1<\/a>]<\/p>\n
