Michael J. Fox wants to get back into acting after retiring four years ago

The Back To The Future star said he was entering a ‘second retirement’ in 2020

Back To The Future star Michael J Fox has revealed he’s open to getting back into acting four years after he announced his retirement.

From his appearances in Spin City, The Good Wife, and, of course, the Back To The Future franchise, Fox was a Hollywood staple for decades for many film and TV fans.

However, in 2020, Fox announced his decision to step away from the camera as he wrote in his memoir No Time Like the Future that he was entering a ‘second retirement’.

Fox previously took time out of the spotlight when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991.

In 2023, Fox explained how it was another movie that helped solidify his decision to retire.

“I thought of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” he told Empire. “There’s a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character can’t remember his lines anymore.

“He goes back to his dressing room and he’s screaming at himself in the mirror. Just freaking insane. I had this moment where I was looking in the mirror and thought, ‘I cannot remember it anymore.’”

Michael J Fox rose to fame in the late 70s and 80s.

When he first announced his retirement, however, Fox noted that his decision ‘could change’, and he recently returned to the screen for the 2023 documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie.

He still hasn’t acted on screen since 2020, but in a new conversation with Entertainment Tonight Fox revealed he would be open to making a comeback.

Now 62-years-old, Fox said: “If someone offers me a part and I do it and I have a good time, great. I would do acting if something came up that I could put my realities into it, my challenges, if I could figure it out.”

Fox went on to admit that creating the documentary was a ‘big thrill’ for him – but while he isn’t against returning to the screen, Fox made clear that acting again isn’t one of his big goals in life.

He described the documentary as ‘fun’, but added: “I never would have set that as a goal. It just happened.”

“My goals are always shifting. My biggest goal, I think, was to raise a family,” Fox said.

Referring to his wife Tracy Pollan, who he met on the set of Family Ties in 1985, Fox continued: “We have four amazing kids and that’s been the big thing.

“And then the other is with the work we’ve done with the foundation and wanting to achieve those goals.”

Fox founded his Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000 to help fund research into finding a cure for Parkinson’s.
