Man whose right hand has been in the air for 50 years explains why he’s been doing it all this time

Amar Bharati can no longer bend his arm because his hand has been the air for so long.

I don’t know about you, but my arm begins to ache after putting it in the air for just a matter of minutes.

But that is nothing compared to one man who has had his right hand in the air for a whopping 50 years.

The Morbid Knowledge X account has long been a social media profile full of interesting and sometimes even weird facts.

And on Sunday (5 May), they posted a video of a chap named Amar Bharati who lifted his right hand in the air in 1973 and hasn’t lowered it ever since.

According to a Greek Reporter, Bharati has been holding his right hand in the air for over 50 years to advocate for world peace.

Bharati began to devote his life to Shiva, a Hindu deity in 1970, leaving behind his wife and three children in New Delhi.

Three years after that, he began to raise his arm as a symbol of his devotion and ‘to militate against wars and support world peace,’ as reported.

Due to his mission to restore world peace, the man ended up being in excruciating pain for two years until his arm lost feeling and his muscles wilted.

Bharati has been keeping his arm upright for all this time due to the Indian sadhus belief in Moksha, a term used to describe enlightenment or liberation though the act of extreme self-discipline as a form of penance.

Speaking to the History of Yesterday, Bharati said: “I do not ask for much. Why are we fighting our sons among ourselves? Why is there so much hatred and enmity between us? I just want all Indians and the whole world to live in peace with each other.”

But because he has been holding his hand up the air for such a long time, Bharati can no longer bend his arm, while his hand has closed up on itself.

The man plans to keep his arm raised until he dies, and he hopes that will eventually lead to world peace.

Many X users have flocked to the comments section of the post that tells Bharati’s story.

“Well, kudos to him but it’s outright meaningless,” one person quipped.

“Didn’t his arm fuse into that position? So now it’s just stuck like that, I believe. So technically he’s on cheat mode now,” a second added while a third remarked: “On mission! Dude could use a Double Double from In N Out though.”
