Trump says ‘God alone’ saved him from death following attempted assassination

The former president of the United States says the ‘unthinkable’ was prevented from happening

Donald Trump has credited ‘God alone’ with saving him in a new statement after he survived an assassination attempt on July 13.

The former president of the United States was struck in the ear while giving a speech in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday (13 July).

Two attendees were critically injured, and one, identified by authorities as Corey Comperatore, passed away.

Shortly after the incident, Trump released an initial statement on Truth Social thanking the United States Secret Service and law enforcement present for their quick response on the scene. He also extended his condolences to all those affected by the shooting.

In a second statement released on Truth Social on 14 July, Trump shared that ‘it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening’.

The 45th President of the United States went on to say: “We will fear not, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness.

“Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”

“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win.”

“I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.”

Trump confirmed earlier that the bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear, describing that he ‘immediately’ knew that something was wrong after hearing the sound of shots and feeling the bullet ‘ripping’ through his skin.

His team has since clarified that he is doing ‘fine’ after the shooting.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have also both released statements condemning the attack.

Writing on Twitter on Saturday, President Biden shared that he’s ‘grateful to hear that [Trump’s] safe and doing well’.

“I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information,” he added.

“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

The FBI has since identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. He was shot dead by Secret Service counter-snipers within seconds of the attack.
