Trump displays injury in first public appearance since attempted assassination

Donald Trump has returned to the stage after surviving an assassination attempt at the weekend

Donald Trump has made his first public appearance after surviving an assassination attempt.

On Saturday (July 13), the 78-year-old was at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman – who has since been named as Thomas Matthew Crooks – fired several shots in Trump‘s direction.

Fortunately, the former president ‘turned his head’ at the perfect moment and instead of the bullet going into his head, it simply grazed his ear instead.

20-year-old Crooks was fatally shot by the Secret Service after the incident.

Following his near-death experience, Trump said it was God who ‘prevented the unthinkable happening’.

He continued to write on social media: “We will fear not, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness.

“Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”

Despite there being an attempt on his life just days ago, Trump returned to the stage yesterday (July 15) to attend the first night of the Republican national convention in Milwaukee.

The Republican presidential candidate, who was seen sporting a large bandage on his right ear, received a roar of applause from the crowds in attendance.

Sean O’Brien, the president of the Teamsters union, went on to hail Trump as ‘one tough SOB’.

Dozens of others voiced their support for the American businessman following Saturday’s events.

Controversial US representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said as per The Guardian: “Unfortunately, this is also a somber moment for our nation. Two days ago, evil came for the man we admire and love so much. I thank God that his hand was on President Trump.”

Elsewhere Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina compared Trump to a lion.

“If you didn’t believe in miracles before Saturday, you better be believing right now,” he said.

“A devil came to Pennsylvania holding a rifle, but a lion got back on his feet and he roared.”

While Trump survived the ordeal, sadly another shooting victim didn’t.

50-year-old Corey Comperatore has been named as the man who tragically died on Saturday.

He was shielding his wife and daughters at the time and has since been hailed a ‘hero’ by his loved ones.

Two other men were critically injured in the ordeal, but are said to now be in a ‘stable condition’ as per NBC News.
