Former Apple employee explains the simple acts people should stop doing that is ruining their iPhones

Former Apple worker Tyler Morgan says these common habits can have a devastating impact on your iPhone’s battery

A former Apple employee has issued an urgent warning for iPhone users to stop doing five things that are causing irreversible damage to their devices.

You’ll definitely be guilty of at least some of them, trust us.

Here to warn you about the adverse impact your actions could be having on your phone is tech TikToker and former Apple sales specialist Tyler Morgan, who shared a round-up of the absolute no-nos for iPhone users in a TikTok video.

Don’t turn your phone off regularly

Morgan urged people not to turn their phone on and off every day, explaining that they are ‘designed to stay on’.

The only reason you should be turning them off is if they’re unresponsive apparently.

Don’t send photos to your friends

Other advice included using the AirDrop function to send photos to people close by.

The reason for this is that if your friend goes on to save the picture to their camera roll, they’ll then have two versions of the picture as it will save as an attachment in their messages app too – filling up precious storage space.

Don’t take your phone in the shower with you

This sounds obvious, but some people have been known to play shower playlists on their phone while they soak.

This, according to Tyler, is a very bad idea.

He said: “Moisture will get into your phone a little bit.

“The next thing is overheating. [Your phone] will overheat fast, especially for someone that likes to take long showers.”

Don’t sleep with your phone next to you

One of the most common mistakes that Morgan pointed out was sleeping with our phones tucked away under our pillows.

It’s understandable that many of us need the comfort of doomscrolling or the lull of a podcast to drift off, but the content creator explained how damaging keeping your phone under a pillow can be.

“Please do not sleep with your phone next to or under your pillow. [The pillow] can cause it to overheat,” he explained.

“What happens when your phone overheats every single night? Your battery gets worse.”

Not only that, it’s also a fire hazard.

Don’t charge your phone to 100 percent

And finally, when it comes to charging your phone you may think that beginning your day with the device on 100 percent is the best way to go, right?

Not according to Morgan, who stated that anyone who cares about their battery health ‘at all’ should not be charging to 100 percent.

“Keep it between 20 percent and 80 percent if you can,” he added.

This piece of advice proved to be the most divisive amongst viewers, with many taking to the comments section to question the logic behind Morgan’s reasoning.

“I don’t understand why I shouldn’t charge my phone to 100 percent pls elaborate,” one user commented.

However another commenter was able to clarify the confusion, explaining that charging your phone to 100 and then leaving it plugged in can cause long-term strain on the battery.

“[It] reduces the life of the battery slightly,” they wrote.

“Batteries are most stable around 55-60% so it’s best to keep it in a decent range [of that].”
