Couple mistakenly rip ‘screen’ off their new smart TV while filming unboxing

It was supposed to be a satisfying move, but it turned out to be a big mistake

A couple were left horrified after attempting to pull the ‘protective layer’ off their new TV and accidentally removing the entire screen.

There aren’t many experiences more satisfying than peeling the protective plastic off a new device.

Something about revealing the crisp, clean screen underneath just triggers a happy response in the brain, so it’s no surprise that TikToker Kelsey – who goes by @kumalashstudio on social media – was keen to get it done when she and her partner decided to treat themselves to a ‘brand new Samsung TV‘.

In the video, the lash technician explains she bought the TV after moving to Spain and assumed it would come with a ‘little protective plastic on it that you need to take off’.

“So we started peeling it off and we did not realize that it was the actual screen we were peeling off,” she said.

As Kelsey and her boyfriend peeled the plastic, they noticed it revealed a blank, white screen underneath – taking away the images and text that had appeared while the plastic was still in tact.

By that point, however, the TikToker noted they were ‘already half-way there’ and the TV was already ‘ruined’.

It’s a devastating mistake to make, but apparently Kelsey isn’t the only person to have done it.

The TikToker's first day in her new house did not go to plan.

She claimed she Googled her situation and found there are ‘whole threads of people’ also accidentally doing the same thing.

“Here’s the TV without the screen on. It looks super nice and clear and shiny,” she said, though obviously one of the main things you’re looking for in a TV is an actual picture.

After watching Kelsey’s video, people began flooding to the comments to weigh in on the incident.

One TikTok user wrote: “That’s not the entire screen. It’s just the polarizing film on top. Stick it on a pair of glasses and you have a private tv, noone else can see.”

Another added: “Ive had customers do this and it’s so painful to tell them they destroyed their tv what tv comes with a protevtive film?!? Answer is none [sic].”

A third commented: “Girl.. what how did you not realise?”

Thankfully, the Kelsey later followed up with her viewers to explain that she got in touch with Samsung over the incident and they were ‘cool’ about the whole thing, and even offered to replace the TV.

After hearing how things turned out, one TikToker resolved: “Samsung is so nice for replacing that though.”
